FOOD FOR THOUGHT. Figures in themselves mean nothing But when figures are carefully cempiled and compared, they form the basis by which all business, public and private, is measured. For Instance, under the Edge road law. which fixes a tax of ten cents per hundred dollars of assessed valuation throughout the State, Cape May County will pay, on her W*,80*,000 valuation, the total sum of fl»E,000 In the fire years during which tV tax win be levied. In return the County la receiving at least 3C miles of ed hard surface rood, which at a low estimale (baaed on the cost of the miles new being built at County expense on the Main Seashore Road) U1 coat 130.000 per mile, or over a million dollars for the total mileage. Quite a big dividend on an Investment of $195,000. isn't 117 thirty-six miles above, is on the route known as route 14. Another route is to be built, which may or may not. enter Cape May Touuty; this latter route known as Route 15. which may be located at any puint to connect with route 14. the State Highway Commission may doslgnate. If Itoote 15 enters Cape May County Eldora, and runt to Cape May Conn House, we will get about Vxteen more miles of $30.C90 perm!!? toad, at no cost to the County. If It enters at Tuckahoe. we will get about six mites: if it connects with Route Mays Landing, we will get noth-

The State Highway Commission have It within lbelt power to aay whether Cape May County shall get an additional »4*u mi wdrth cf roads: mu,000 worth, or none at .'11. If it is borne in mind that this road iU cost the County not one cent, either to build or to maintain: that the oulire expense is borne out of the Stale appropriation, into which this County will pay $195,000 regatdleaa of

We feel much like Editor Flaher, of the Ocean County (Toms River) Couri*r. who aays In a recent editorial: ThwrQ Is hot a newspaper in the county that has not "been up against It good and proper" the past few months. Everybody likes to air his own grievances to the public, and as so many people seek the aid of the newspaper to tell their troubles M the world, why wouldn't it be fair for the newspaper* to unburden their sor rows to the general public: The war has also conspired to ’ htow labor condition* In such aa tins- (tied state that printers are almost itrposatblr to get There- is scarcely .y shop in the County that haa nut ket one and «*n«- publisher at least, has recently he* n rompelhd l« ge* out four sep mat- edition* ol hi* paper with as many diBet>-iit tones To add to Hu- trouble* which are he-j setting the craft, the mail* have beramr so denu>i«lis«d through the extra burden t»l »«t that m-»*papers are apt to rea> h ■ ul ■ ibei* any old Hum goodie•• - kno» when, md •
