PRAISE FOR UNITED STATES FUEL ADMINISTRATOR. February 7. 1918

To the Editor:

We desire to express our appreciation for the prompt, courteous and timely amalstance rendered by the National. State and County Fuel Administrators to securing soft coal for the use of our p-.-wer plant at Cape May Court House. Owing to general fuel shortage and disorganisation of transportation faculties our coal supply ran low and was practically exhausted by Wednesday, February 6th, when a car of cool reached as. Its arrival was due highly to the efforts of Deputy Fuel Administrator Snead, of Doctor Garfield’s office. State Administrator Jenkinaon. of Newark, N. J, and County Fuel Administrator Busby, of

Atlantic City, N. J.

In view of the wide-spread discus sion and criticism of the National Fuel Administration we feel It only fair and Just to acknowledge the efficiency and consideration accorded us by the officials above named, and we take this occasion to say 'that from our experience we are satisfied that when the truth is known the necessity for the curtailment of fuel consumption will be appreciated and admitted by the

public at large.

When the present session of the New Jersey State Legislature closes C*Pe May County's two represent* will have caused to be written on the statute books of the state some of the most constructive and Important laws enacted this year. Senator Stevens has Introduced fifteen bills to the Senate, of which at least two-thirds directly affect Cape May County. Chiefly among these Is Senate BUI 153, which maker It unlawful to fish for menhaden to the Atlantic Ocean, adjacent to the State: It has been long contended that the menhaden fishermen were a great menace to the hand-line fl«Mng sport, ard annually caused the lots of many thousands of pounds of food fish, and almost as many dollars of the Une enthusiast-., who were being driven sway by the poor fishing In the bays and Inlets. This blU has been reported favorably by the Gam* and Fisheries Committee, and stands a good chance of passing. Among the other bills of Senator Stevens Is one which fixes the salaries of County Engineers to first el.— counUes at *10,000: to counUes of between 200.000 and 400.00C. J7.500; between 60.000 and 200.000, *5.000; leu

than 50,000, 13,500.

Another is an act to j-vesarve crabs. Prohibits taking of shell fish without a penult first had and obtained from the State Department of Health. Senate BUI 154 provides that the standard ton of coal shall weigh 1.240

lbs.

Assemblyman Lake has contented himself with securing the passage in the lower house of Senator Stevens* “IBs, but has Introduced at least tw> bUls of exceptional merit. One amends the Act relative to taxes and fives municipalities the right to return delinquent taxes and make tax sales. whUe the other Is a Supplement to the Act relative to taxes. Secures the repayment of money paid out by a municipality for its assignees to take possession of land or premises under foreclosure, and also moneys spent Jx. repairs for fire insurance and upkeep of the property.
