HOW SHALL GOUNlYi FINANCE BOULEVARD? SOME PERTINENT QUESTIONS ASKED; SPENDING OF feoUTE FIFTEEN MONEY ON Al 1 'L-RE-SORT BOULEVARD WOULD SAVE COUNTY HALF MILLION, SAYS WRITER.
By REESE P. RI8LEY. The fag end of the Kalaer*a winter finds Cape May County with her great adventure In County Improvement work, the All-Resort Automobile Highway. disconnected and far from finished. And the breakers that mark the shoals of finance ahead appear to be dangerously near. This waa the high point developed at the Chamber of Commerce meeting at Stone Harbor on February 2L There were many other things said germane to the subject and otherwise, but the big fundamental question was: How are wa to finance the completion of our partly-built All-Resort Boulevard under tha pressure of war-time
is in Its infancy, and the founders of moa: of them are living. The qaaatiao ariws whether real estate valuta have discounted the near future or whether they will continue to advance. Each yuar one hears that a tew yean ago money waa to be made In aeaanorr :• *1 estate, but prices are now high. But the prices of a few rears ago look *>i*ap now, and the prices today slD In all probability look cheap In a few yean. Secahore values have always advanced, and there has never been a
slump.
The high uost of living bogey received a body blow In the State Legislature on Monday night, in the paseage by the Senate of the bill to allow the Slate to go Into the flab bualnaea. This la Governor Edge's scheme and **s embodied In a bill presented by Aaatm bl) man Badglry, of Eaeex. It will permit the State not only to have thd first opportunity to purchase the fi>b caught In the pounds along the coast at the market price, but will also allua the purchase and construction of cold storage plants and to market the same to Jbe people of the State. TLe scheme ia to be administered by a oommlsaum to he named by the Governor and to serve without salary.

At a recent meeting of thr Building Committee, the question of when to begin the erection of a new church edlflri'. waa discussed from every angle. And the answer made by the Director of the Board of Chosen Freeholders waa that we are'NOT to finance It for two years! To Stone Harbor people this answer Is far from satisfactory and the further reference to possible "State aid" is equally as Inconclusive. Quite Incidentally and casually the Chamber delivered what might have appeared to be a knockout blow to the suggestion that the hard-surfacing of ROute 15 from the Cumberland County line to Cape May Courthouse be dropped and the half-million dollara It la to coat be expended Instead on the AllResort Boulevard. The vote showed that the resolution hadn't a ghost of a cLance. Now the only trouble with Director Rutherford's method of disposing of the AH-Resort resolution la that It doesn’t dispose of the PURPOSE of the resolution and it doesn't complete the Boulevard! The Idea of using the State Highway Tax money (Route 16, Capa May County's share) on the AU-Raaort Boulevard la ao reasonable and practical that It can’t be ignored. It win stick In the minds of every tax-payer in the county and out of it until there 1* some better plan devised to finance and finish the All-Resort
Boulevard.
