Prospective tenants who wish to rent cottages couiu come to their luVorite resort on tht noou- • time electric tram and after securing a location lor the season return to their homes in PQuadelphia in time for their dinner. On tne otner hand, sued a service being longer in point oi time would not compete witn the existing steam railroads. It would result in greater growth lor every resort and add millions of dollars to Uie value of local real estate while increasing the number of visitors-by tens of thousands yearly. If the bridges to be (instructed on tne line of the All-Kesort Boulevard are built wide enough and substantial enough to carry an interurban trolley car, this electric service can be secured for Cape May county. These bridges would be situated at Townsend's Inlet, Hereford Inlet and Coal Spring Inlet (Schellenger's Landing). They need only be similar, generally speaking, to the electric bridges between Somers Point and Ocean City with an added width for motor traffic. The extra cost of this feature would be insignificant compared to the benefit the entire county would derive from this method of construction. The annual income which Cape May county would receive from the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, the Reading Railroad Company or the independent electric railroad company leasing the privilege to operate electric trains across these bridges would pay the interest and sinking fund charges on the entire .cost of their construction. The Federal control of railroads removes the last vestige of red tape and official indifference which has heretofore barred the way to this magnificent travel-achievement. The time is ripe to urge and advocate this enterprise. It has already been favorably discussed by VicePresident W. W. Atterbury, now Brigadier-Gen-i-ral in charge of transportation on the Western Front. Its consummation needs only the united support of the people of Cape May county behind their Board cf Chosen Freeholders to make its realization a certainty. STATE TAX HELPS HIGHWAY SYSTEM.

The direct State tax of 1 mill will, it is calculated. produce about *3,000,000 yearly for « period of five years, to be applied to the hardsurfacing of the principal State highways. - Work on the White Horse Pike, in Camden county, is either already under way or will be shortly, while in Cape May county the first section of the Main Seashore Road (Route 14 ) to be improved is the lower end below Bennett's Station. where the deadly Sally Marshall crossings are to be eliminated and the three miles of road straightened and resurfaced at an estimated, cost ot $200,OoO, including the four proposed bridges on the line. The hard-surfacing of the State roads will reduce the cost of maintenance and prove an added attraction to thousands of visiting motorists from this and adjacent States.
