SEASHORE BEST HEALTH INSURANCE. The health-giving qualities of the seashore have again been proven in the present epidemic influenza, which is sweeping every’ section of the country. While thousands of cases are being daily reported in the cities, and people are dying at such a rate that coffins cannot be supplied fast enough to meet the demand, the seashore is practically free from the plague. The few cases that have been discovered along the shore are almost all directly treaccable to persons who recently visited the cities, and there contracted the disease. Only two or three cases

have proven fatal.

This absence of influenza here is more than a mere accident The peculiar curative powers of the salt seashore air. and the undisputed purity and salubriousness of the climate at our resorts, has made them ever practically immune to the plagues that infected other sections. Two years ago, while infantile paralysis was demanding a heavy death toll throughout the east the shore was entirely free, except for such cases as were brought from the cities. And these were cured, in a great majority of instances, in remarkably short order. I**tor Louis Starr, in bis American Text-book for physicians, strongly recommends the seashore fur practically every form of illness, speaking pasticuiarly <-f the curative powers of the sea air for such diseases as asthma, catarrh, rheumatic cases, bronchitis and infantile paralysis. The same authority defines epidemic influenza as “a general infectious disease producing catarrhal difficulties of either the respiratory or gastro-intestinal tract” from which the natural deduction can be taken that such cases are benefited at the short, and convalescents are greatly helped by a visit L. the shore. It is surprising in \ tew of thi . tiuti more people who are in the

BARKER PREVAILED. Just before the passage of the water power bill through the House an effort wan made by a Mississippi Democrat to impair the effect of the legislation by excepting from its provisions Niagant Falls and the power plants that are operating in that vicinity. Congressman Richard Wayne Barker, of New Jersey, objected U> separating certain project* from tbe jurisdiction of the water power commission, while including others. The status of affairs at Niagara, Mi. Barker pointed out, is controlled by treaty between this country and < anada. and cannot be interfered with by the present legislation. Rut if another treaty should be entered into it would lie very convenient to have a commission of experts
