Fellow Citizen*.

For nearly two years Am erica 1* sons have !ou| “to make *he world a betterplaea to live in,” while sacrificed sad served, and saved, hod gave of their o ties, for their soldier j' and for all bumtnity'a sake. This year, of all years, we ahouid unite in making our own city, a

"BETTEIt PLACE TO LIVE IK.”

For in I'hese stressful war yean we h&ve necessarily neglected, for the world cause, conditions in our midst, iu our city and its homes and work

places and streets and vacant grannds

Not only have dirt and rubbish accumulated until they now are grave menaces that should compel our Immediste co-operation with the Health and Fire Prevention authorities is their effort* to dean up, and to keep cleaned up—bnt we also, perloree, have neglected for several years, the proper care of public snd private buildings mud premises ; repairing and repain'ing (affected by the wfcr ban upon public activities, now happily removed) have been so generally neglected that Uie resulting snd continuing damage and depreciation require immediate stoppage. Seven thousand American eomInanities, moved by these conditions and considerations, are participating in the National Clean Up and Paint Up campaign, the spirit snd plan find success of which Justify our own

prompt and unanimous co-operation.

We need an immediate and continuous and thorough campaign that arpresenU snd enlists every htteCest Snd organization, every romn, woman and child in the community, in k crusade of Cleanliness, Phrift and

Civic Pride and their practical application.

AH organisations and iudlviduSii endorsing this campaign are urged to act pn-mpUy and make their influence and effort count immediately by volunteering their support and suggestions. It is especially important that we give the campaigfi a good sun by making the week a ^>ig enc-

oees, a big community event
