With the exception of a relatively few lacking in mental development American citizens are intelligent in the study of governmental problems. The great mass of the people can be trusted, and it is little short of an insult to them to reiterate encomiums upon their sacrifices for humanity and to repaint the picture of enduring peace to be achieved by a treaty whose provisions are bat vaguely made known. While waiting for facts, the American people will steadfastly adhere to the declaration of our forefathers, Jiat these are and of right ought to be free and independent states, and that as free and independent states they have full jxjwer to levy war, conclude peace contract alliances, establish commerce, and to do all other acts and

Mead Tomlin, Sheriff

Seldom has a man better qualified for the office for which he seeks ever come before the voters of Cape May County than Mead Tomlin, of Cape May Court House, who some mouths ago announced himself a candidate; seldom, too, has a man announced himself for a county office whose candidacy has met with such universal commendation as has that of Mr. Tomlin. Both Republicans and Democrats have linked hands in their endorsement of him. Mr. Tomlin comes before the voters of the county clean, and with no past political record to live down. His first public office was that of County Under-Sheriff, in which capacity he is now serving, and in the condnct of which office he has made a record that, if it be taken as a criterion of what can be expected when he is elected Sherrfi this fall, will assure Cape May County of the most efficient administration of that office in many moons. Mr. Tomlin is popular, square, a man every inch of him, and by reason of his clerical training and his three years’ exjierieuce as Under-Sheriff is peculiarly fitted for the office; and he deserves the splendid support be is receiving in every quarter.
