Harmony in Republican Ranks
The TIMES concurs in, and endorses, every word of the following editorial, appearing in last week’s Cape May Court House
Gazette:
“1920” is coming on apace, and every good Republican in the United States wants to see the party line up in one solid rank, shoulder to shoulder, faces front and eyes on the enemy. Some of the wisest men in the party are awake to the fact that there has been entirely too much factionalism in this county, and they clearly that unless the factions can and do come together and talk and vote as a unit this year, next year's results will be in doubt It is not the purpose of this paper to dig up old scores, or criticise any man or men who in the past have been identified with either of the tactions—what is past cannot be^recalled, and neither all the virtues nor all the sins have been on one side. Let the past bury its own dead. But the time is now ripe for an earnest reconciliation, an honest shaking of each others’ hands, and if there is any. virtue in studying political conditions, we would say that a large majority of the voters are about determined to have no more factional disputes—what they say, and what they are signing in the way of nomination papers all trend toward harmony ot the genuine brand. This is the evident sentiment of the private in the ranks, and it would be well if all the leaders and would-be leaders took the hint
and governed themselves accordingly.
Of course there are a handful of malcontents in each faction-

no opponent)for the Republican nomination (the rumored candidacy of Mr. John Sayre having no foundation at this time) and a large percentage of Mr. Tomlin's friends have cagdrly signed Mr. Hildreth’s petition. That there is a sort of an attempt at opposition to Tomlin’s having a unanimous nomination, is true, but it is also true that it lias no endorsemenj whatever in tbe Hildreth bead-
quarters.
Both gentlemen are working for the nominations to which they aspire, and as we understand the situation neither is using the slightest influence to control votes against each other. The result, of course, is that all over the county hundreds of Republicans arc signing both petitions, and unless the malcontents can succeed in creating disruption the outcome is clear—a ticket made up of two of the best men in the county, thoroughly couij>etcnt in every way
