These rivers are known as navigable waters wherever motor boats are or can be operated on them. AU motor boats, when operating, should have tbe following equipment: Approved appliances for extingiushing burning gai-ollne; an approved Ufe preserver*. or similar appliance, for each person on board, capable of sustaining afloat for 'a continuous period of 24 hours a weight of not less than 20 pounds; a whistle, fog-horn or beU. capable of producing proper signals ahieli can be beard at least one-half mile: carry two copies of "Pilot Rules" a bos d. ating or while at anchor.

The attention of aU owners and operators of motor boats in this Customs District is railed to a law passed by Congress June 7. 3918, which requires aU motor boats to be numbered. The regulations made in accordance with this law by the Department of Commerce became effective December 7.
