HILDRETH IS m FOR CLERK'S OFFICE

BECAUSE OF FAITHFUL SERVICE, 15 ENTITLED TO RE-ELECTION 16 GENERAL OPINION; MEAD TOMLIN ASSURED OF SHERIFF NOMINATION BY REPUBLICAN PARTY.

Why change County Clerks thin year when we know that A. Carlton Hildreth has given faithful and efficient service during his tenure of office, and whether dr not a new man would make good is a matter of pure speculation? la the question being asked all through Cape May County at th.‘ present'ttatf. On the other band, the advocates of Charles Brownmiller. the notorious Rigor taction candidate, are advancing 'service" argument, stating that since Brownmiller volunteered and spent two years (?) abroad in the my, |i is due the voter* to honor him with Iho nomination to the desk's Ofthe primary election on Sep-

tember 23rd.

Good, sound busineaa judgment of the voter* is being pitied against patriotic sentiment In the hope of making vote* for Brownmiller. The facts ar$ this, while Brownmiller did (perhaps) serve In the army. Mr. Hildreth performed a service that was far more necessary than actual service In France, for without the kind of work done by him voluntarily and ithoui compensation of any sort, there would have been no registration for the draft, and no fighters to take their place on the battlefields of France. Carl Hildreth's particular Job was to head the Cape May Countydraft work, a service he performed cheerfully and with such ab olute falrand Impartiality tha counth friend* were made by hirn thereby. When the endless hours of actual toll put in by Mr. Hildreth in this patriotic and v-luable of all work is considered, the "servicr*' campaign bubble of the Brownmiller forces vani.ihen into thin air. as have the rosy colored hubhh-s of past campaigns Mr. Hildreth ha.* reduced the Clerk's office to one of ,'r.c r-ost efficient and smooth working organlxatlons In the Stale, and enjoys the absolute confidence of all who. even remotely , hnv* had dealing* with his office. Hi* reelection Is a matter of pure business. If for no other reason than that a chance would involve a substantial dollars and r ents to the taxpayers. Mead Tomlin Running Strong. With the finish of his nomination ice a mailer of only comparatively a few days. Mead Tomlin, of Cape May jurt House. Is tunning strong and ill pro’, i- an easy winner over Daniel Schellenbergr r for the Republican Shrievallt) choice. Mr. Tomlin ha* been Deputy Sheriff for the past three year*, and ha* made curb a marked success and attraried such a wide circle of friend* that bis nomination is a foregone conclusion.

GOOD FISHING WILL CONTINUE INTO FALL. Late sun\mer and fall salt water fishing on the New Jersey coast promI*. • to hold as good as during the last two months, in k’hlch anglers have enjoyed unusual luck. Many of th< captains who Like crews to the fishing banks declare they never have i the fishing better, both In the bays and ofr shore, than has rewarded tens of thousands of sportsmen who have oeen practically sure of a good catch. . The sudden Improvement in fuhlng Gils summer Is regarded by 'longshore na n «* one of the most natural phenomena for which there is no definite explanation. Many believe the great run of menhaden, immense schools of Which have appeared along the Jerseycoast all summer, have tended to drive the other fish shoreward. In the bays, also, there Is a great abundance of crab*, shrimp and other aquatic lif< Upon which the fish feed.
