Stalks that are too tall and stalks which grow their ears high are not considered to be the best ones to choose seed from unless a man is saving corn for ensilage. This is rarely done except'in dairy counties. Hog Diseases. , Last week Dr. Scbnelle from the State Department of Agriculture visited Cape May County and inoculated 64 hogs. He responded' to a call which came about through community work. Whenever a progressive farmer with drat class community spirit will take the trouble to get the list of men who wish their bogs treated, getting the number of animals and weights of the animals, the State Department will do all in its power to nave one of Us men take care of Outbreaks of hog disease*. The position tbs*, the State takes In the mailer is to help out the local vetv./narlan* In'the control of diseases and not to try to Inoculate all the hogs in the county. This would be unfair to the local veterinarians and at the same time would be an utterly impossible '»«> for the present staff of vet-

AGRICULTURAL NOTES.

Dr. Mel. T.i Cook. Plant Pathologist, from the Experiment Station visited many second crop potato flelos In the county last week and-found in some of the fields considerable disease. The diseases that were the most prevalent were Early Blight. Curly Dwarf, Movie and Rhlxoc lonia. There were many of the plants in some of the fields affected with lack of vitality. If the weak plants and those affected with any of the other disease* mentioned except Early Blight, are left to go to seed, evil results wfll ehow next year's crop. Dr. Cook thinks that by careful hill selection while the vine* are still growing. 009 would be able to perfect his seed in a few years to such an extent that his crop would be increased from fS'fc to SOT-. Mr. Howard Hoffman, of Cold Spring, and Mr. Ralph Scbellinger, of Green Creek, who are raising late grown Cobblers for seed, were glad of the opportunity to get Dr. Cook's advice and personal supervision in picking out diseased hills of potatoes In their fields. —

The County Agent is working In coopera’! m wtfh both local and State veterinarians and is successfully checking the spread of bog cholera and other disease where co-operation among the farmers has been strong and the work started sufficiently ahead of time. The disease at the present time is pretty well under the control of the local veterinarian and comparatively few animals are reported as sickening. There is a possibility, however, that untreated animals will take the disease at any time, ooaaequently it is advisable to have such animals treated with bicterine for mixed infections and serum for cholera. Selecting Seed Corn.

Husk'ng time is the time to select corn for seed- .Too much stress rimnol be placed upon this statemenL Several farmers are now remembering that selection. Do not let them ge: ahead of you. A good method is to swiific a bag over your, shoulders and go tnrough the standing corn and take all of the well formed and choose the hills which meet the requirements of your fancy.
