EFFICIENCY DEFINED, linoer the heading "Elect a Mau ut Efficiency”, the Democratic Wildwood Tribune in its last Issue, enters into a lengthy denunciation of A. Carlton Hildreth, candidate for County Clerk, and is equally eulogistic ol Coleman F. Corson, whom the Tribune would

like to see elected.

The Tribune fails to mention that during Mr. Corson's term of office, as Sheriff, bis office was conducted in anything but an efficient manner, and paid less th»n half of lu actual running expenses. It does mention, however, that Mr. Corson succeeded Mr. Mtdvln as Sheriff, and while Mr. Melvin was Sheriff, Mr. Corson was un-der-Sberiff. And yet it has the effrontery to attack Mr. Hildreth because he Is a candidate to succeed himself! One of the groat points of the X 1 *' tune attack Is the statement that the Clerk's office fell short <15(H) of pay ing Its running expenses last year. Every Intelligent person knows that at the seashore the past year has been a year of real estate stagnation, and that few legal papers were recorded In comparison with normal years; and that, further than this, with the decreasing business of the office, the expenses increased even as the expenses of every business,and every Individual, increased. Demands were greater for wages for the clerical force, for every kind of suppllin. and. yes. even postage. Mr. Hildreth has very ably nailed this dirty political canard In an open letter to the press this week. “How much longer are yon going be fooled” asks the Tribune. *‘Y complain about high taxes, but you elect your public servants, not from the basis of efficiency but according to how bad they want the job.”
