day Night, in City Hall, to Discuss Storm Protection and Jetties.
The meeting of the Sea Isle City 1
Commissioners on Monday was
ducted with funeral-like solemnity, un-, til the optimistic smile oi th<- Mayor, supplemented by that of Director Love and Director Chapman, bespoke the fact that then's nothing that couldu' be worse, and a llule thing like a hit of storm damr?e on the beach front
wasn’t going to phase them.
Director Chapman's report was sorrowful enough. The boaidwalk fro-a the lighthouse north was all gone, piling and decking, and one square in the southern section was demolished. The new boardwalk in the Pier section was damaged, the band pavilion le duced to kindling wood, and 16 piling knocked from the good sections yf the boardwalk All the bulkheads were badly damaged, and some demolished
entirely.
asked whether he had any recommendations to make for repairs. Director Chapman stated that it was early to even suggest repairs, and that he had gangs at work salvaging railing of tie- boardwalk, and stacking up the lumoer. and that another force was at work repairing the damage done to the new section of alk, and putting up the rest pa-
vilions.
Director Love then stated that he believed the only solution to the damage caused by every northeast storm was a series of Jetties along the entire front, similar to those at Atlantic City, Avalon. Stone Harbor and Wildwood. In this the other Commissioners concurred, and Mayor Fitch produced several sketches h» had prepul ed of Jetty designs. The CoinmlstJouers agreed that something along this line mu*.t be done, hut were unwilling to incur the vy expense of putting out these Jetties, unless the taxpayers of the resort were willing, and would concur m their action. Accordingly it was decid<-d to boil a taxpayer*' meeting in the City Hall at t ight o'clock on next Saturday night. Feoruary 14th. A ca* 1 lor this meeting has been issued by the Mayor, end personal let tecs are being sent to the heath front property owners. Instead ol re-building the hand pailion, it was informally suggested that the le-building he deterred, and that for this season u nail be rented, a string orchestra be suhsUtmed the brass band of other years.
