FIRE ORDINANCE IS AGAIN DISCUSSED ORDINANCE AS PRESENTED BY SOLICITOR COMES IN FOR MUCH DISCUSSION; ACTION HELD OVER FOR ANOTHER WEEK; PLACE CITY ADVERTISING WITH WHITCRAFT AGENCY; BOARDWALK WORK PROGRESSING.

The City Comtnisston.-rs of Sea Isle City had a lively session on Monday afternoon, in the newly re-linisbad Mayor's office. The ugly bare walls of this portion of the City Hall building are now covered with wall paper, rnd the wood work, long since shorn of its beauty by the ravages of time and neglect, are resplendent under a coat of varnish. All that now remains to lx- done is to have a few Turkish or Oriental rugs scaueripd about the room, and acme new furBiture and real, honest-to-goodness steel files obtained, and at least that portion of the municipal work shop will look inviting and business-like. One difficulty arises In this, and that is ihat there are apt to be a great many randidates for City Commissloner, hereafter, particularly for the Mayoralty post, for the sheer pleaaure of using the slicked up meeting room, it may be slicked up no lorgor ■ that time cornea, and that Is an-

other matter.

At any rate, at Monday's meeting, the City advertising for the 1920 season was placed with the Clark-Whlt-craft advertising agency, an agency making a specialty of seashore advertising The advertising this year will be done in a list of suburban newspapers. including Camden and Trenton In New Jersey, and Chester. Harrisburg. Norris^twn and Allentown In Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia papers will also be used. In addition u> this, the City will co-opcrate in the Issuance of a booklet which will be t?nt to all who write in response to the advertising for further information. and will be disiribut"d to various hotels and business houses for use among visitors this season. The most important business before the mee’ing was the consideration of the new Fire Ordinance, which was presented in final form by the Solicitor. The ordinance is entitle^. ' An ordinance to disband Voiui • i r Fire Company Number One and .e Vigilant Fire Company of Sea Isle City. N. J.. and to provide for the creation, organization, control and operation of a full paid Fire Department in lieu of such Volunteer Fire Companies." The ordin-nc is drafted in pursuance of the law* of 1914, which givA cities power to disband volunteer companies and organize a paid department with nominal salary for each member. It is proposed to have twenty-five members in the company. Other business before the meeting was the report ot Director Chapman of the receipt of (31.76 from the sale of old boardwalk lumber, and that the new boardwalk work was progressing nicely, and the square reconstructed by the city from F'urrar.U lo Ludlant Street was completed except the railing. He also reported that he had been unable to satisfactorily arrange for local teams for street work, and b:<d sent to a county contractor for

teams and men.

On the recommendation ot Director Chapman, the property owners will be notified, under the city ordinance, to reconstruct their approaches to the Boardwalk within thirty days. The matter of City Music was discussed. and Mayor Fitch made It clear that the city did not Intend to re-build the old*music pavilion, and asked what the opinion of the taxpayers and the Commissioners was to renting a hall and having free orchestra music. %lth barges made on two nights n week for dancing. The mattet was held or until the sentiment of the taxpayers wld more fully b - obtained.

Though Cape May County is now. apparently, and to all outside views, a* dry as the desert of Saharah. nevertheless. the hotel keepers are hoping for a favorable ruling on the legality of light wines and beer*, and upon the advice of attorneys, will apply for their liquor licenses as usual Practically all of the hotels In Si
