Thompson, in explaining his action, Mr. Thomp-t-un staled that he could no longer defer the acceptance of an excellent offer which he had received for employment elsewhere and wax forced to ask tbe Commission to release him from bl* duties on or before tbe first of rest month. Immediate steps were taken to secure a proper successor to Mr. Thompson and after going over the entire situation, the Commizsloners decided that the circumstances called for u temporary rather than a permanent appointment to the office. By unanimous consent, therefore, Mr. Watson G. Clark, of Tenafly, a former member of th*- Commission and an eminent t-unEulUng engineer was chosen as the one person Ideally suited by training and actual experience with tbe New Jersey State Highways to serve In this capacity. The Commissioners among other important matters acted upon three bids submitted for the construction of the Cape May C >urt House Section of Route No. 14. The lowest bid waa that of WilUam Elsenberg, of Cape May County, fo; $86,507.73, which figures $3.90 per square yard for a concrete pavjment ranging in thickness i 8',k inches at the center to 6 iea at the side. Mr. Elsenberg waa awarded the contract for the work.
