To the Public: In view of the untrue and Injurious statements that have been made by uninformed persons concerning -he case of Charles Robinson who was taken from the water dead on Tuesday afternoon I wish to make the following corrections: The Life Guards, Captain Stevens and his aide Prank Conway were neither asleep, fating with the girls, nor sitting me stand. Three penori went down within a few minutes. Two were rescued near the shore, while Captain Stevens swam out to sea and got the third man who was beyond the first
bar.
Holding the body with ore hand Stevens started back against the heavy sea. With the use of only one an . he realised ht was in grave dang* himself and unable to make
r. As soon as possible
he called for the can. which was taken out at a rlak to htmeelf by Monty, who met Stevens swimming, and with its help they made their way to the life ring held ready by Conway and when the two men and the reecued body were on it willing hands pulled it to shore. On landing. Stevens tent at once for the doctor, the palmotor, and the Coast Guards to assist in the work of reAbecitatlon, which be Immediately commeneed hlmeelf so that there was
no delay in that work.
The man had a aerious affection of the heart and it is a mystery why he went out so far. The finding* of the Coroner was that death was caused by heart failure end not drowning. The summer has been marked by storms which create dangerous crosscurrents and heavy seas, and a somber of reecnee have been made which have not been published. This number is mnch lees than might have been but for the watchfulness of the Guards who by whistle and boat have constantly kept the bathers In safe waters, and have maintained Sea Isle City's proud boast Of having “the safest beach on the coast.” We are not seeking praise, but do ask Justice and truth. If the people who are spreading these unfair re-
the next to need aid they
will find WE ARE ON THE JOB.
