Is this the oldest Will in the World?
OSS.
A few yean ago aa English ms p unearthed from asm: ra ns in Egypt what proved to be the last Will and Testament of one Sekhenren. This bit of papyrus was dated 2550 2. C. and disposed of all this gentleman s possesSMBS in mnch the same manner as our Wills of today. The striking part about it is the fact that even 4000 yean ago prudent men found it necessary and advisable to safeguard their families by a Will. Contrast this with conditions in Camden County. Out of 1722 ADULTS who died in 1921 only 280 individuals left Wills. Eighty-four out of every hundred, passed away without ever a thought as to how their property would be distributed. Thoigntless. yon say. Worse still—WASTEFUL and HEARTLESS! Wasteful because it usnally costs an estate more to be administered without a Will, and it takes longer time, than with one. Heartless because these estates were distributed according to the dictates of a rigid law and property went often to heirs who were never intended to share it—and almost always at the expense of the needy. Every man should have sympathy enough for his family to m*lr» a Will—to make sure, as this old Egyptian did. that his property will go to t Mte who deserve it.
