Mayor Atwater, as he will still be called by his hosts of Sea Isle City friends, waa the real pioneer of the reeort. It waa he who waa the first resident See Isle City ever had, and who built the tint home here, those daya there were no railroads Into Sea Isle City; neither were there any wagon-roads other than an old pike that was under water most of the time. An antiquated stage coach tranr-ferred the passen from the -team trains at SeavUle to this city. A year after the Mayor built his first cottage here the tint railroad came into Sea Isle City. After living here a number years. Mayor Atwater disengaged himself from his business affairs and. traveled Europe for eighteen yean. After his return he looked up the old homestead, and Improved It and added to IL This was in 190S. Since then he and bis children and his children's children resided here during the summer months. In 1913-14-16 Mr. Atwater wai Commodore of the Sea Isle City Yacht Club, and on Monday. August 1?I4. the Board of Governors tendered to their Commodore a birthday banquet, and on the table were seventy large American Beauty roses, one

for each year.

The Committee on the purchase of r vault reported that a burglar-proof and fire-proof vault had been purchased from the York Lock and Safe Company, containing sixty lock boxes and chest. Jr., was appointed attorney for the Institution, and also its notary. The by-laws ol the bank were formally adopted, and every necessary preliminary attended to. so that the Bank is ready today to do buslness. all but the supplies, fixtures and location. These. It Is understood. will all be in shape within the next two or three weeks, and the Directors aim to open the new Bank for business as near November 16th os

The thirty-ninth annual meeting of the Cape May County Medical Society was held at the Woodbine Colony for Feeble-Minded men. the State-owned Institution which was opened lost year in the buildings given for this purpose by the Boron

Dr. F. R. Hughes, of Cape May, presided, and Dr. Eugene Way. of DennlsviUe, the Secretary of the Association for many years, was at his poet. The morning session was given over to the discussion of "Mental Abnormalities and Principals of Eugenics.” led by Professor Alfred Gordon. of Philadelphia, who Is probably the most noted sathority on mental diseases In the country. Dr. Gordon exhibited various types of feebleminded. from the lowest type of Idiots to the higher types, all inmates of the

Woodbine institution.

There are now one hundred nd twenty-four Inmates In this Institution. and a waiting list of two hundred more to enter as soon as new buildings are provided. Mulford H. Scull. Cape May Dance Success The Halloween Dance, given by the Progressive League on Convention Pier. Cape May. Tuesday evening was a huge success. The grand march proved a galaxy of fancy and comic costumes. Miss Martha Thiel was awarded the fancy costume prise. Among the costumes worthy of note were a tinsmith, a woman's costume of the fifties and a fancy Spaniah dancer. The Pier was decorated with novelties for the occasion.
