E ONDER NEW RULE COUNTY ASSESSORS ARE IN PANIC OVER INSTRUCTIONS TO ASSESS AT 100 PER CENT. OF TRUE VALUE; MANY REFUSE TO ACT ON STATE BOARD’S RULE.

“Assess everything at 100 per cent!” When the State Board of Assessment Issued that edict, and passed It along In unqualified terms to the County Tax Boards throughout the state, they surely started something. And when the County Tax Boards passed the order down the line to the local assessors in the cities, towns and townships, a lot of momentum given to the little thing that the State Board started. And lastly—but not 1 easily—when the local assessors passed the word along to the taxpayers and put the new rule Into ‘ application—well, there was the deuce to pay all around and in general.

It Is hoped, will be In about two weeks. While the plans for the opening day are not complete, tentative plans call for a luncheon to be nerved to all visitors, an orchestra and souvenirs. blyman by a majority of 3S93 votes. The Board of Freeholders elected, and which will take offlee on January first, displacing the present large Board, Is Robert J. Kay. of Wildwood, two years; Charles E. Foster, of South Sesvllle, one year; and Mayor Joseph G. Champion, of Ocean City, three years. It was In Wildwood and Cape May that Champion waa cut hardest, the vote in Cape May being almost three to one for their home candidate. Charles York. Democrat. In Wildwood the “Bright" workers were said to have been out openly supporting the Democratic nominee for both the three year Freeholder term and the Sheriff's offlee. The big surprise In Tuesdsy's election was the poor vote given to FreUnghuysen and Runyon, both running far behind the Republican ticket. This la made nil the more surprising by tbe fact that Cape May County has generally been conceded one of the staunch “dry" counties in the State, in which any “dry" candidate could count upon a big
majority.
The complete official returns of the election by wards, is published In this issue.
The world Is surely growing better. I’ts been months now since any fond mother has forced her child to "speak a piece" for the editor.
8KEETER HAS SOME DECIDED IDEAS ON LAST TUESDAY'S ELECTION: SEE PAGE FOUR.
There are stretches of roadway where these signs had been placed by members of the Progressive organization for tbe Informal advertising gained Insofar as Ocean City to concerned, and members of the organisation made it their respective duties to ses to it that such signs were nailed along these stretches. Who or what has caused the removal of the signs to a Email but highly Interesting problem facing those Interested In advertising Ocean
City.
I Am Your Town Make of me what you will—I shall reflect you as clearly as a mirror throws back a caudle beam. If I am pleasing to tbe eye of the stranger within my gates. If I am such a sight as. having seen me. he will remember me all the days as a thing of beauty, the credit Is yours. Ambition and opportunity call some of my sons and daughters to j high tasks and mighty privileges, to my greater honor and to my good repute In far places, but It to not chiefly those who are my strength. My strength to in those who remain, who are content with what 1 can offer them and with what they can offer me. It was the greatest of all Romans who said: "Better be first In a little Iberian village than be second
In Rome."
I am more than wood and brick , and stone, more even than flesh and blood—I am the composite of all who call me Home. I am your town.
If you are a taxpayer of much consequence—or possibly of little consequence—you probably know what this to about Your assessor has waited upon you and perhaps told you that he must raise the valuation of your property—that he has been Instructed to assess everything at full 100 per cent value. He is going to Jack you up. You thereupon turn upthe noble gentlemen with the pencil and pad in hli hands and you do some jacking up yourself. You give full vent to your feelings—your injured feelings. Why not? Here you have been watching the tax rate go up year by year until you feel that you Just can't stand It any longer. The spirit of revolution is In you. You are already at the point of telling him to take the property; that taxes are confiscatory, wh«n along he comes and Informs you that he to going to double the vUnation on your prop-
ty.
Oh. if you only had year gun handy that miserable assessor would get his Just desserts! He's s tyrant, that's what he to! Don’t Blame the Assessor Now you musn't blame that poor, overworked, mistreated, much-abused assessor. He isn't as black as you have painted him. He U human and he has a heart. He to doing the best that he knows how. The man higher up Is the man that you should go gunniug for. If you have read up. you will understand that all this started a Continued on pago 2
