willing to subserlbe flO.OOO toward a proposed $30,000 advertising fund, in the event only that the city would finance the two-thirds end of the pro-
posal.
Nulty stated that the Chamber of Commerce did not wish to dictate the expenditure of the proposed fund, but did want a radically Increased amount placed at the disposal of the city. He caUed attention to the money being spent by •urrounding resorts, and gave Wildwood as a shining example of such
a program.
Mayor Champion, later In the meeting arose and outlined the needs of the city for advertising, agreeing with the proposal made by Nulty. but blocked the further progress by declaring that the city needed money for other essential things. He said that he had the opinion that Wildwood, as a city, did not raise the money hinted at by Nulty. but that the citizens of the town were at the bottom of the move. Mayor Champion stated that in View of the proposed high school erection, tennis and atbiotlc programs. the city would well nigh have full use for budget funds. Reuben Edwards, when called on by Nulty for a brief talk, declared himself also in favor of the proposed fund for advertising, but stated that there was only one way to advertise the city and that lay In filling to overflow ing every cottage, hotel and rooming house during the coming season, with satisfied guests, and tha' If In that way the city had all the patronage it could handle, advertising would be a simple problem. Edwards refused to call such a program a "boom'' but said that It was more of a progressive stage of de-
velopment.
Other speakers ini 'tided Dr. Alan ‘ Corson and Leslie Headley. Nulty. E. S. Shantz and Mayor Champion. | Nulty concluded by saying that if' the Commissioners would do their best, the meeting was a success. I Headley in his talk voiced objec-l tlon to the Fourth of July celebra-J lions where, as he put it. "more thanj $3,000 was shot away.” He cited St. Petersburg. Florida, as a good advertising city. He also offered to the Council the use of one hundred Ocean City signs to be placed along the highways between Washington. D. C. and Miami. Fla., in the event that the city would finance the erec-1

Director Campbell, taking the floor toward the end of the discussion. | Stated that Increased advertising appropriations would mean an Increase of taxation and asked those present If they wanted to pay five dollars on the one hundred valuation. He declared that personally he did not
want such a rate.
A communication from a Chamber of Commerce committee on the pro- j posed donation of a strip of ground on the north side of Ninth street by the Pennsylvania Railroad to City, was referred to Solicitor Boswell and Commissioner Campbell for consideration and reply. Mayor Champion submitted an ordinance calling for the fine and imprisonment of persons who are found guilty of letting sand, dirt or other
