plots.

The discussion began when Brick' made the suggestion that Improvements along certain atreets In the way of trees and shrubs, tended to enhance the appearance of those par

tlcular streets.

Trees, it was pointed, cost In th« neighborhood of four dollars, and if planted correctly with sufficient soil for growth, would greatly beautify the street scenery. However, this suggestion may have affected other members of the organisation la session, B. F. “Why the gardeners set out treee by the score." Goets declared, "and you should hare seen the reeult. don’t believe there Is a m»n in the city who could coax a tree to grow.' Here Goetz was interrupted by a man who had sat silently through the entire discussion, but who on Yaking the floor proved to be a gardener. This speaker called attention to the need of good soil in planting trees, and stated that usually trees set out In Ocean City were given chance to live, because of lack

top soil.

The discussion waxed warm and finally Chairman Button appointed Brick a committee of one to reach the "key" man In every city block and bring about better beautification of the city. Goets was named aa s member of the committee but declined the offer. William E. Massey, v told of the effort being made to beautify the entrance to the city over the Seiner’s Point route and called attention to the need of active eo-op-eratiou in bringing this about, so aa to place Ocern City entrances on a par with those of Cape May and Wildwood. Massey also expressed his thanks, and urged a similar expression from the chamber at large, to the Shore Fast Line Company for the excellent service in operation between Ocean City and Atlantic City, on the half hour schedule during a

dull season.

Massey further touched on the situation relative to the Pennsylvania and Reading gpllroads. and promised a near conference with officials of the Pennsylvania toward bringing about a solution of certain improveinents along railroad property Ocean City. In addition he called attention to tbe naming of a ferry boat on the Reading system In honor of Ocean City. This latter mentioned event will probably take place In the coming summer season. Tbe suggestion that electric signs be erected In Miami. St. Petersburg. Jacksonville. Florida, and Atlantic City, advertising Ocean City, was made by Harry Headley, after the chamber had gone on record favoring the printing of some two thousand New Year greeting cards. In one form of advertising the city to

outside Individuals.

Massey, when called on. stated that with reference to the sprinkling of streets with salt water from the Bay, during the hot summer months, and the subsequent damage done to automobile fenders and parts as a result of salt contact with Iron, that two wells have been sunk In the city, one at a level of 834 feet furnishing 700 gallons of water a minute and tbe other at a 400 foot level furnish- ' In frrnh water but with iron taste. He advocated tbe use of this Utter well In sprinkling the streets, to replace (he salt water use. Attention was also called to the filthy and muddy condition of Ocean City streeU as compared to other county highways and streets, during rainy seasons or when the streets were sprinkled. This condition was •aid to be caused by the sal* used during the peat summer. A nominating committee composed of Russell Nulty, John E. Trout. B F.
