What was thought to be an alarm of fire was sounded at 5:50 A. M. Thursday. The summons was not to fire, however, but to bring Superin tendent Whittington to the electric light plant to syphon the water which was backing up into the flywheel pit and threatened to put the plant out of commission., Fortunately, in this ease, the whistle was so quiet that few heard it, but for fire
i a louder whistle should most certainly be Installed.

TALUATI0H HF0REASKD PROTESTS AGAINST 333,700 OVER LAST YEAR CAR FOR SHERIFF
Cape May County Times,
Sea tale City. N. J.
Gentlemen:
I see in the dally paper that the Sheriff of Cape May County nas requested the Board of Freeholders to appropriate 82.000 for a car for his i. I could hardly believe my and verified this report from one of the members of the Board of
Freeholders.
When economy and reduction of taxes is the cry of all our governing bodies, end the people at large, it to me a particularly extravagant proposition for the Freeholders to appropriate as much as 82,000 for a' car for the personal use of the Sheriff. Unfortunately our governing bodies are oftentimes led by the Insistence of their personal friends and do not realise that the great of taxpayers are more entitled to consideration than the small nuniber ot office holders. uld urge the cltiiens of Cape May County to register protest with the Board of Freeholders against the appropriation of 82.000 for purchase of a car for the use of the Sheriff. Very truly yours. E. O. HOWELL. Jr.
