Bessie’s id came last week, when she ran head-on Into deputy Hoffman, carrying a bag. Later ahe appealed In the Sheriff's office, seeking admittance m her husband, minus the bag. "Where’s your bag.” aaked Hoffman. "Didn't have any” was the reply. But Hoffman was suspicious—yea, very suspicious. So while Bessie and Jimmie were having a nice little visit, both Redding and Hoffman made a search of all likely hiding places in front, side and back of the Jail building, and discovered the bag In the kitchen of ‘he Janitor, behind a coal scuttle. Sure-enough, boose was the contents. And we hav.e It on reliable authority that It was vi!e stuff at that. Anyhow Beale was Jugged, and then held under 91000 ball for grand Jury, by Justice Garretson. She is still In Jail, unable to gtt bail. When we coined and adopted these Business Slogans a great many years ago they meant then just what they implied—the existence of business factors, peculiar to Our Stores, that stood out clear and distinct as a clarion call. From these foundation elements we have never deviated— and today the mere mention ot the name American Stores Company establishes in the mind of the consumer those standards of Quality, Service and Economy—the very bulwark of our organization.
