The groom la a well-known figure la public life In Cape May County. Mr. Canfield waa born In Springfield, m., and came to Ocean City In 1886. He waa elected a member of Council there In 1818. In 1887 Mr. Canfield was elected to the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders, serring from Ocean City tfutil 1800. In 1889 he was appointed on the Commission of Appeal* a breach then of the County Hoard ol Taxation. Mr. Canfield also ft erred as Ameaeor end at Justice of the Peace, prior to moving to Avalon In 1904. Since hie residence In Avalon. Mr. Canfield hu been active In municipal affair* serving u a Councilman and four years ago being elected as Borough Commissioner, to which office he waa re-elected last month.
