The road build ere who are laying the eight-mile concrete stretch from Swain ton to Marohall’s Corner, are progressing rapidly despite the difficulties encountered. The northeast storm that swept the ooasi during the burly part of last week Relayed the builders somewhat. The*contrsctors experienced some trouble obtaining a ■ufflrint water supply,. .by the roadbollders to clog.

Construction Superintendent Robert McCarthy, of the Public Service Company, states that he expects to have th$ entire eastern half of the road open for traffic by November 8th. At the present time the contractors open about 1300 feet of road dally. Perhape that none of the candidates are waging a strenuous campaign accounts for so little Interest being displayed. What has become of the old-fashioned political rallies, that are usually held In' the Inland towns about this time each year’ These rallies furnish a good Introduction for the candidates and it also gives the voters a chance to voice their opinions and objections. It also furnishes an excellent field for the future Henry Clays to polish up their oratorical ablllt'.es. Very often unexpected staying powers are exhibited by tic shakers. I recollect one meeting held during tEe strenuous campaign last Fall when one of the speaker* gave and hour and forty minutes to an address on the uses and misuses of the tariff, and strange to relatfi. every one stuck to the finish. .
