Bids Pot Tennis Courts Turned Down As Too High; Orchestra
Employed For Season
Street Supervisor Named Bide were opened at the meeting of the Ocean City Commissioners Monday for the placing of summer newspaper publicity for the 1926 season. Two bids were received, being from the Gormely Smlth-Pfeifer Company, of Atlantic City, for (3,760.96, and the Dorland Advertising Agency, of Atlantic City, for I3.636.66. After the bids were scheduled by Engineer Colllaeon, a resolution was offered by Mayor Champion, awarding the contract to the Dorland Advertising Agency. One bid waa received for the building of four tennis courts at the Ocean City Tennis Club. The Union Paving Company offered to do the work for $14,766. This bid was rejected by the Coi. _•!*- elonere os being too excessive. Bids were opened for the leasing of the tennis courts for the 1936 season. A letter from C. O. Killy was to the effect that he would take charge of the Tennis Club for 6126 per month. A bid of 31 was received for the lease from Alfred C. Miller, of this city. Cwnmlssloner Robinson declared that he was doubtful If the best Interests of the city were served by the leasing of the grounds. He was of the opinion that the city should operate the courts In s bualnees-Uke manner. He proposed that the courts be placed in charge of one of the
Commissioners.
A motion by Commissioner Campbell placed the care and direcUon of the Ocean City tennis courts under the supervision of Commissioner Robinson. Commissioner Roblnaon then moved that the bids received for the leasing of the tennis courts be rejected. These motions were both passed. Commissioner Robinson recommended that Osborn* Coieon be appointed as street supervisor at a salary of 1176 per month. A revolution was offered by Director Roblnecn to this effect and was accepted. Director Robinson reported that the Commissioners had Inspected the conditions on West Avenue, between Twentyninth and Thirtieth Streets. The consensus of opinion was that the Weet Avenue, between Twenty ninth and Thirty-fourth Streets should be cut through and graded. He also reported aud recomded that additional brush and e be placed In the Jetties at
South Ocean City.
Director Robinson recommended that arc lights be placed at Twenty-fourth Street and Central Aveeue. Eleventh and Twelfth and Wealey Avenue, and at Twen-ty-third and Asbury Avenues.
