Sea Isle City Commissioners wrestled with two knotty problems at their meeting Tuesday. The first waa that of a building line, and, the second the erection of the new electric lights which were to convert Landis Avenue Into a "White Way.” but which haven't "whited” for a cent up to
this time.
Problem No. 1 was provoked by a protest In a letter from H. A. Bndiott, against the erection of a building at Central Aven»« and Minerva Street beyond the line of the present houses, which Is 27 feet. It wa# recognized that the problem was a knotty one and the legal advice of City Solicitor Hildreth waa sought. The Solicitor thought that where a certain building line waa adhered to on a street. It could be considered a legal line, but If violated Ip a single Instance It would loee It* force. This was not very satlsfactorj to the Solon*, who realized the Importance of the question, especially aa the city la now taking on new life and a building bockn is at hand. It was finally decided that the Commistdonere would go over the city, view the street* and fix a building line for each, the conclusions to bs submitted to tlje City SoUcitor, who will draw up an ordinance embodying the auggeetions qnd submit It to the Commissioners for action. Mr. Endicott's letter was received and filed. The new electric lights, which were to make Landis Avenue as bright aa day. were contracted for last spring, and for weeks past have lain somewhere about the city's storage quarters—doing no good whatsoever. Why they have not been put up was not clearly brought out, but it was decided that they should now be put Into service with the least possible delay that the city may have the advantage of them part of the seaeon, at least. Mu*t Conaem Water Another question raised waa that of the reckless waste of water by some resident* on their lawn* Commissioner Maher thought the installation of meters would be the proper thing. It waa finally decided that the City Clerk should publish a notice warning residents against the reckless waste of water, fixing heurs for sprinkling towns, violators to be penalized by the Installation of meters on their premises. Waat Sea Isle on the Map Mayor Sofroney reported that Inasmuch as the Shore Bus Line had the namee of Atlantic City. Wildwood and Cape May on their busses, he had written the man agement requesting that th< name of Sea Isle City also to placed on the busses. He submitted a letter from the company In which it was promised this would be done when the bu were repainted. Questioning the legality ot the Firemen's Relief Association to elect a treasurer outside of their membership. Mayor Sofroney asked the opinion of Solicitor Hildreth. In reply the Solicitor. In a written opinion, stated the officers must be elected from the membership. It was ordered that a copy of the opinion be sent to the soctation for its guidance. The legal status of the public library and the composition of Its officials was also sought by t' Mayor from the Solicitor. In (Continued on Page Twelve)
