Good Advice For Ambitious Young Men Toung men who are ambitious to make themselves Independent might do worse than paste m their hats the injunction of Mr. Samuel Vauclaln that what really counts In the Job of acquiring wealth is not the amount of money a man makes, but the amount he spends. Unless there is a regular margin of saving. It Is Just as impossible to become independent on 310,000 a year of 320.000 a year as It Is on 11.000 or *2.000. Mr. Vauclaln has put In a pretty busy life. Nobody will que.tUon that he has, as he says, kept himself so busy that he found litUe time to disburse money on nonessentials. Toung men nowadays are not generally inclined to stick close to the Job. Perhaps Mr. Vauclaln himself would have less diaposltion to work, and more to play.
If he were at the age when golf, or tennis, or driving his own car, or some other outdoor sport appealed to him. There Is no doubt that with greater general distribution of wealth our younger generations are more disposed to recreation, That is perfectly natural. On the other hand. It Is plalnly the part of foolishness to devote more time to spending money than to earning It. And an unreasonable proportion of younger folks actually seem to devote more thought to spending money than on saving IL Those who plan how to spend their earnings before they have the money In their pockets are never likely to And themselves in possession of competence, for the good and sufficient reason that they are always Incurring debts In advance of their amllity to pay them. “A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand”
Back in *58 at the Republican State Convention held at Springfield, Illinois, Abraham Lincoln, in accepting the nomination for State Senator, said: “A house divided against itself cannot stand. * There's a wealth and weight to that statement that hits survived all these years and will live through all the years to come because of its truth. If we, the citizens of Sea Isle Gty are divided against ourselves in the matter of the city’s growth and progress, or are half-hearted in our spirit to support and boost it we will always remain where we are and have to content ourselves with watching our neighbors pass us by, and take our prosperity out in wishing.
Let’s do «ot divide against ourselves—but unite in a single effort to build Sea Isle Gty into a city of magnificent proportions—rich in spirit—healthy in retail business— powerful as a money center—big in population and a profitable market for our hardy country people. Timid people have little chance—let's call in our nerve reserve, go forward and demand the success for our city that it deserves. Nothing is achieved without effort and toil and to make ourselves and our city we must do it. The rewards will be plentiful in personal gains, pride and glory of something accomplished.
