Tbr South Jrrx-v Ixigur vrason closes tonifht with the Mill-ville-Wildwood and Hndfcton-Morria Guards clashes. The race throucliout the tir»t and vrco-Kl hall has been closer and more interesti.ig than eve* in it>r history cl the caje stmec in Southern Jersey. Tbr second hall probably won't end with two teams faring first place, hut it at least has been so dose that the league leaders could nevei r»«r up and be certain oi the title. In lact the Millville team must triumph over Wildwood tonight to assure thcroarlvey "t the title, lot a win by the Rndgeton dan over the Atlantic City soldiers would place the Moo<e on e\en terms with the present

leaders.

From the standpoint of the Ocean City fans the season was not a success. Tlie •earn came through with but two wins out ol twelve games. They copped but one ol their second halt series.

With the idea of. starting a little argument now "hat the reason i« over and for awhile we will be pushed for some local sub ject 'Dour which to write, we started picking an all-star team from among the South Jersey teams. The job became more difficult than was anticipated. If one were allowed to select two or three men for each position <1 would not be so hard, but we find that it is rather arduous picking five players who stand out very far above any other five which migh* be selected. Be that as it may, here’s our leanT! Allen Bossier, Wildwood, forward. Bloomy Phrampus, Millville, forward. ___ Joe Reagan, Millville, center. Eddie Dolin, Wildwood, guard. George Oberholeer, Moms Guards, guard. If we were to select a substitute forward, our choice would be , Phrampus' running mate, Billy Young. The sub-center would be Gumulowski, of Bridgeton, and lor the eatra guard job we would take another Wildwood player, Doc Walker.

Veil probably won't agree with our srUrtion. It would hr rather disappointing if everyone should do so. However, if you ion do better let's hra r about it. Is a Strong Scoring Team

The ream selected, with a single exception, veterans of many campaigns and one in which the finer points of the game have become ingrained to the degree that they arc now instinctive. Phrampus is the exception. A mere youngster in years, j compared with the other players, he is one of the fastest forwards in the league. His fine passing and team play, oiten at the expense of his own chances to score, make him a valuable member of any quintet. Allen Bossier, the other forward for the all-star team, could not be left off any tram picked from the league. Possessed with an eagle eye io' the basket and the heart to battle hardest when the going is the roughest and never complaining. Bossier is a credit to the game. His play ha-, been one of the main features io the second half rush of the Wildwood team.. Both Bossier and Phrampus have been among the leading scorers rbrougltout both the first and second halves of the season. Choosing a renter is cue of thr hardest icits ronnrrtrd with thr srlertion of the team. Brandt, the Ocean City star, has i omfeted vs so few games that hr was exduded

There was not a really exceptional scoring center in the league. Gumulowski leads the centers ir. scoring because of his foul shouting, bur none in the league have set the world on fire with their showing of field goals. Reagan was selected above the othrr centers because of his “head.” Then is little doubt but that he is the wisest pivot man in the league. He does not excel in getting the tap. but breaks about even with his opponent, but his floor pUy and directing influence in the attack of the Millville team wa> the man; factoi in making them a pennant contender. Livrcry, of Wildwood, invariably got the tap because of his unusual height, but his offensive and de-

fensive play left much to be desired.

There was an abundance of material among the league guards from which to select a team. Dolin and Obrrholxrr were efiosm, but Walker and Pete Miller are a part of speedy back court men who can be depended upon to not only hold down their man, but

drop in several double-deckers themselves.

Dolin, the leading scorer of the second halt race, has been thr outstanding player of the last part of the trasuii. Regardless of whom his opponent might be. Eddie has been able to keep him wdl covered and managed to get up thr floor and drop in nvore goals from thr field than any other athlete in the league. George Oberholxcr, the Morris Guards' star, is not far behind the veteran Wildwood player in offensive ability. Obie is perhaps even more effective than Eddie on the defense, because he is faster. Dolm iv sonu-vliat liandiripped by a bad knee and the years of prolesstonal play have begun to tell slightly, but at that none of the youngsters

have fccen able to run away from him this season. H'alt'r and Miller rate about evenly in dcfrnnvr ability, but Doe has arrountrd for more points than thr MU Italic slat aud that is the only way in which we could

choose between them for the runner-np job.

Many Trick Knees and Now a Trick Back

Joe Dugan, Heinie Groh an.l Lou Blue are afflicted with tricL knees, and there are several pitchers with trick arms, but Mento

Acosta, Louisville outfield-r ,s thr first with a trick back.

Bruce Dudley, sports editor of the Louisville Courser-Journal, is the authority for the statement that Acosta's trick back might end

his baseball career.

Acosta was injured during thr lattrr part of the 192*: season and didn't even accompany thr CoWls to Baltimore for the postvason series. However, he did makr thr trip to San Francisco, but his back still hurt him and be was forced t<, the bench again. Physicians a.'vised that only a complete rest would help Acosta. But when he reported for Mnmg practice with the Colonels this year thr trkk back jumped out of place again. Hr’ S Still with the club, but hr has expressed doubt as to wbrtln lie will be able to play regularly again.

By ZIP The anti-Bright faction of the k<publican party are snickering at tbe manner In which the former Senate President lustily voted aye for a salary Increase for the County Clerk. There 1* Utile love lost be tween the Senator and tbe County Clerk. Surrogate and Sheriff. That thr Hon w. H. I* the Senator from Cape May County I* no fault of the county official*. On the other hand, it is understood that the feeling Is mutual. Tbe best that tbe county official* could expect from Senator Bright would be a Illy, and they would have to die before they would get that. Several week* ago Assemblyman Stratton, who is recognized a* Setiatoi Bright's mouthpiece in the House. Introduced a bill which would increase tbe County Prosecutor's salary $1,000. Inasmuch as the County Prosecutor spends only two or three days a week In tbe county. It was thought that it would be advisable to throw a few crumbs to the coun-y official* who spend six day* a week at their offices, namely increase- their salaries from $2SU0 to $3,000. In the meantime Assemblyman n;r-i introduced a bill which passed the A.-frembly. which would Increase the salary ol the County Clerk. Surrogkte and! Sheriff from $2600 to $4.ou-i. This bill mad.- no mention of air increase fot the Prosecutor. Senator Bright. It was reported. made It plain that the county officials would receive no increase if he could help it. ami apparently the measure was doomed to the Inferno of lust,

Assemblyman Smock, of Ocean County, introduced a bill which would increase the salaries of Ihe county official* in lhaf county to $2,600. When it was ap
