BAROK DeHIRSCH
FDHD OH RIGHT TACK
As in agricultural experiment the Woodbine colony, founder by the Baron DeHirsch Fund, was not an eminent success, possibly
because the colonists
agriculturally inclined and possibly because they were not practically acquainted with the soil and conditions of agriculture in
South Jersey. Be the reasons!,^ U( *
what they may. the colony did 1 not succeed on the lines laid out
by the founders.
Not discouraged by this disappointment the Baron DeHirsch Fund has started on another tack, that of cultivating the ethical side of the colonists, or their descendants, and from the results attained in a short period indications are that the)- arc on the right tack and that seed is bring that will bring forth a
bountiful harvest.
Anyone at all conversant with Hebrew children must be aware of the avidity with which they grasp every opportunity to acquire an education. Their aptitude this particular is as strong as that for getting along in the world financially, and with proper ing this aptitude can be turned to acquiring ethical culture, and that is the purpose of the latest me of the Baron DeHirsch Fund Woodbine, an experiment which is being closely watched by lar organisations all over the country', for if the Woodbine

These lectures, concerts and art exhibits are entertaining and j instructive, but it must not be forgotten that the great object back of them is the ethical cdu-| cation of the growing youth and I that through and by this, definite economic and social changes will | wrought in the community which will transform it. The drabness in the lives of the people I give way to a lighter vein, which will be reflected inside and outside of their homes and in their outlook on life. Hitherto heir great aim has been to pro-1 vide for their children those advantages which were denied to
themselves.
This objective being now as-
sured, they will be able

and refining things of life.
This is the main objective of the Baron DeHirsch Fund in its latest move and they are on

Thirty millions of dollars in Christmas club funds was the tidy sum paid out by the banks and trust companies of the Third Federal Reserve District. This district is composed of Eastern Pennsylvania. Delaware and Southern New Jersey. Eleven millions of this sum was paid out in the city of Philadelphia, the remaining nineteen millions being paid out in the smaller cities and rural sections of t>*e district. This is a splendid showi. - ?". Who can compute the happiness this saving of a year's time will bring to thousands on Christmas morning. It would be a wonderful picture if it could bt
