1885
The dedication of the Splendid New Court House Building on June 30th indicates the tremendous growth and progress of Cape May County in the past few years. When a municipality, a county, or a private business, outgrows its old quarters it is a sign of development and expansion which has its foundation in solid worth and good management. The Board of Chosen Freeholders are to be congratulated upon their foresight and good managemnt in giving to Cape May County such a splendid structure, equipped to properly care for the growing business of this growing county. The county’s leading newspaper, the Cape May County Times too, has kept pace with the progress of the county. From the small, six-column, four-page newsp aper of 1885, printed on a slow, old-fashioned hand press, it has steadily grown until today it is an eight-column never running less than from twenty to twenty-four pages, printed at great speed on the most modem of newspaper presses. In circulation it naturally has grown also. Today it reaches the majority of homes in every village and hamlet in this wonderful County of Cape May, and stretches up to and includes the fringe of Cumberland County. In editorial content, news coverage and the variety and character of features it is not surpassed by any community newspaper in the United States, and for several years in succession has won high . wards from the State in various newspaper contests, in competition with every other newspaper in the State. The Commercial Printing Department also has grown from a small and humble beginning 42 years ago, to one of the most modem and completely equipped commercial printing p'ants in New Jersey, turning out every working day in the year a wide variety of the finest grades of commercial, legal and resort printing. Three and one-half years ago, the TIMES, and its sister newspapers published under one ownership, moved into their new building in Sea Isle City, one of the outstanding publishing homes in this State both in size and architecture. That we have merited the confidence of the people of this great county in reflected in our growth, as rapid and as substantial as the growth of the county itself. Drive over to Sea Isle City any day and inspect the home and plant of this Cape May County Institution.
