1 THOMAS' COLUMN Silver Trophies to Poultrymen A handtntnr silver trophy hr* been ofierai b> the Cumberland Count)' Board of Agriculture tor the individiul poultnman from Cumberland Count)- winning the greatest nnmbrr or points in the State Poultry Show to be ' dd at Atlantic City, < htober 12 to 15. indusive. accordtng to John Weed, president ot the Yinrland Poutlry Association who is in charge of the -fviw. A State tropht has also been offered for the count-, making the best showing in the coming show. Surely Cumberland County, with the intensive poultry section of V me land, should make a strong bid for the State trophy. Both of these priret will be offered in addition to ribbons and cash prizes in each of the various classes for standard and utility birds. This is the first year that the State Poultry Show has been held in conjunction with the annual convention of the State Poultry Association and it is anticipated that there will be a large number of entries.

Cumberland Poultry mens Tour

The annual tour of Cumbriland County poulttyman will be held on Thursday. September 22. The tom. which will start at, East f«andi» Avenue and Mam Street, at 10 o’clock, will be made to representamr tanns in Atlantic County. Arrangement' are already rompletr for stop* at May's landing at Sam Baevsky’s. and at Egg Harbor at Fred Walter's. The noon stop will hr at the park ui May’s landing and arrangements are being made for a few short talk*. L. M. Black, poultry specialist, as well as some representatives of the Atlantic County Poultry Association, are expected to accompany the Cumberland poultrymen. Other -tops arc being arranged for farms at Dorothy and Hammonton. The attention of the poultrymen this year is directed particularly to farms where pedigreed breeding is being carried on. Both the Walter and Baevsky flocks made very creditable showings in the Vineland Egg Laying Contest last year; the Walter’s flock winning high pen and oi*t of the Baevsky bird' winning first place lor individual production. Flocks being reared in confinement and semi-confinement will be 'em by the poultrymen.

Wanted: An Agricultural Program

We are anxiously looking forward to the day when the ramvr* in this section of South Jersey — particularly Cape May and Cumberland Countie* — may have an agricultural polio, an agricultural program, it may consist of a one year program, five year program, a ten year program, or all three. Certainly it by no means impossible for th>. agricultural leaders of the Statestudents of South Jersey farming -and the thinking fanner* o this generation to formulate a larm program. Such a program would be based not anil on available statistics and data procurable, but upon the general trend of agriculture in this and other section*

which affect, or will affect our agriculture.

To be sure, with all the calculation* and prediction' which

might be made, the program would probably not hit the mark exactly But such a program would mint assuredly lead our pgn culture to a far greater prosperity and higher plane, ten sears

frotn now. than if we allow it tn merely drift along with the tide. Let assume that there t» an imaginary straight road lead

ing to maximum proaperit* five years—ten years from now. Along this road there are many by-roads leading off from it. ptnwhly a.tractive at the beginning, but ending on "swampy ground. 1 nr fanners who stick to the main road are prosperous fivcor ten year* from now thow mho allow themselves to be switched off

to the by-road*, find that they have wasted their time and effort*. We need a program to point out the main highway and to steer u* clear of the unprofitable by-ways. Just a» an individual fanner makes [dans for his farming operations next year, there should be m a bigger and broadri sense, an agricultural program made lor South Jersey Agtiiulturr. extending ovvr five and ten year period*. story most interestingly On last Priday, when interviewed t>y a reporter of this new*|iap.r. Mr. Krinskey said: “I have built this business on a policy of a complete service to the farmer. Ixi us assume that you are going Inin the poultry business, and you are here to ask me about what I can do for you. Thl* is what 1 would

on our truck* to be delivered Into that new bouse you have Ju*t built Then, f.milly. you w ant the Tc.-d for those chicks: And here is where our service is at Its beat. So you *««.'■ concluded Mr Krinskey. “you get an idea of our service to the farmer. Whether he need* a new roof on hi* home, a m-.ient floor in his barn, or coal to keep him warm. It Is here for bin; always at honest prices,

Mr. Krin'key I* a man still
