W. C. T. U. 42nd Annual Convention Will Be Held In Bridgeton September 28th Everytibng Is being done to make the forty-second annual convention of the Cumberland County W. C. T. U.. which Is to be held in the First M. E. Church. East (ommerce Street. Bridgeton, on Wednesday, September 2S. one of the best and most profitable meetings in the history of the county union. Mrs. Harriet Powell, the president. and other officers and members ol the various local unions In the county are making great preparations and arranging pleasing program. The morning session opens at 10 o'clock followed by box luncheon during noon recess. The afternoon session opens at 2 o'clock, and the evening session at 7:30 o'clock.

Newport Pastor

Surprised On Birthday On Wednesday night. August 31. the Port Norris Baptist Church surprised the Newport Baptist Church by taking their pastor and orchestra aud Pastor Williams of the Shiloh Church, to assist In the prayer service. A happy hour was spent together in songs of praise. Pastor Fletcher led the,

meeting.

After the prayer meeting came the surprise party when the whole congregation was invited to the parsonage to help celebrate Pastor Fletcher's birthday and confiscate the Ice cream in store, unawares to him. This was a real- surprise that ended at midnight.

Old times were revived ir minds of old friends when Edward Hardy, of Bridgeton, called on Mr and Mrs. Daniel Pierson. Sr., at Non Poit Norris. Sunday afternoon. They had not seen each other for about twenty-five years. They spent the afternoon talking over old times and looking old pictures which brought boyhood days spent at the North Port Norris school thirty yeat more ago. Sunday School Class Gave Luncheon to Mrs. Mudge On Friday evening of last week the Sunday school class taught by Mrs. Howard Mounts held a luncheon m the dining room of the Brick Presbyterian Church. C'edarvllle. the honor of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mudge. who have been visiting in town. Mrs. Mudge. before her marriage, was Miss Harriet Dansenbaker. and an active member of this church. A very appetizing lunch served consisting of cold boiled ham, baked beans, potato salad, cake and coffee and all the other things that make up a meal of this kind. Firemen’s Carnival Giving Daily Shows

Tall Cedar organizations will be , present from a number of points : and some of them will bring their hands with them. Salem, which is a splendid band that has won { number of laurels lately, will be here with its hand and with a large representation of members. Chester. Pa., is coming strong with a band and so Is Trenton. I Pennsgrove and Glassboro forests . also planning to be well i represented Saturday. There will be a conference In j the library annex Saturday afternoon. starUng at 2 o'clock and following this will be a large banquet in the ball room of the Cum-! berland Hotel. This will commence 6 o'clock. One hour later a. monster street parade will be held The Tall Cedars will turn out in full regalia and with the several bands in line the parade should prove of great Interest to citizens of the city. The climax of the day will come when the Bridgeton Forest will put on the Royal Court In fall i form. With national officers present the Bridgeton forest Is going' to make this affair a splendid and colorful one. Candidates will be IniUaled from several Cumberland, 'ounty points. The court will be I held in the armory commencing 8 o'clock.

Silver Trophy For Poultry Winners Exhibitors at Atlantic City! I Will Be Contestants

A handsome silver trophy has been offered by the Cumberland County Board of Agriculture for the Individual poultryman from Cumberland County winning the most number of points in the State poultry show to be held in Atlantic City. October 12 to 15 inclusive, according to John Weed, w ho is in charge of the show. A i State trophy has also been offered for the county making the best' showing in the coming show. Cumberland County should he well represented, as the principal poultry center of New Jersey ts located in the Vineland district and there are many who have as fine birds there as are to be found anywhere. It is understood that prizes are offered for both standard and utility birds. There Is a long list of cash, ribbon and special prizes offered. This year marks the fire the State poultry show ha held at the same time State Poultry Association.
