Publicity Bureau Receives Complaints Several days ago it came to our attention that the Publicity Burr*!* had received lever*] complaints fr.*n residents ot other states, to the effect that they had been "gyprd" by roadside market stand owners. W. R. D. Hall. Publoty Pirr.tor for Cape May County, when asked about the matter made the tollowinc conwnentt; “I haw knosvirdcr of two cases this year and one last tall, where motorists from other stales purduurd producr trom Cape May County rood side market* to take home with them. Their chief complaim »»' that they had purchased com sold to them a* “Shoe Prfc, - ' *nd in each instance they found it to he nothing but hone own, as it did not even approach bring sweet. They wrote in to this (dike and renarked that they had rnjovrd their vmt to Cape May Count), but that that com had lett a had ta«r in their

“Thu Bureau brltrses that being 'gyped' by an unacrupulous roadside merchant roomer acts all the good that may come from County advertising,'' said Mr. Hall. To an) tight thinking person, such a condition as thi* needs no further comments.

Honesty Best Policy For All Concerned Speaking of selling held corn tor "Shoe Peg." we are frank to say that we see no reason why the Pure Food laws should not Operate in a case of thi* kind. .And we are confident tliat the Pure Food Laws would have very ardent and loud champion* in these same men who mid bone torn, were they to purchase canned * , Goidr:i Bantam" com. and found if to be coarse, tastrlrv. field corn. We hear “that it is a poor tule that will not work both way*.’’ and this is no exception Every roadside market owner should do business on the same basis he expect* and demands from business liousrs with whum be deal*. “You can't too! all of the people all of the iimr.’' and smart practsLe* bring discredit not only tu individual roadside markets Ult to market stands in general. Honesty in conducting a ruadsale stand is more than a virtue— k k good busmen sense. Telling customer* the absolute truth — about prod.ice not only helps the individual who dor* tuisinrs* on thk basis, but all roadside marker* throughout the County. Fortunately many stand owner* have seen the light and give their customer* an Imnrst square deal. Those who have not. should be made to see it through the Purr Food Law- or some other mean*, thereby rendering a great service to cuatomm, other road sale stand owners, and possibly the greatest value of all no the unscrupulous ptuptirton

themselves. • • • •

Dueaaea Limit Poultry Profits Poultry diseases are of great economic importance and everyone interested in poultry should make it hi* business to Irani something about the leading ailments of hens. Dr. John R. Mohlrr, of the U. S. Department ot Agncultuie. addrrsatr.,' a ronvesttion of veterinarian*, reminded he. hearers that poultry disease* were important, because the American hen is responsible for more than one-third of the world's supply of poultry and eggs. The value of The American hen and her product*, rank* third to other branches of the livestock industry. Bringing these facts closer home, we find that the value of poultry product! in Cumberland County exceeds the combined value of all livestock and its brandies of the County by three times. This being the case, there should be a concerted effort not only by poulfTsinm. but by business men m general, to advance the study of this tactor in the |>ou)try busmen, winch limits its profits, and to advocate the application of information already available. The same comment* apply equally a* well to Cape May (bounty. The poultry industry cannot help but be a very important one in this section for many year* to come-. The vast concentration of population within a few hours ride «f here make* it difficult for anyone to think whet w ise.
