Wednwday Ocean City banks started disbursement of the Christina* Club savings totalling $45.WK) to some 800 depositors an average of $56.25 for each person. Much of this money will find Its way Into Ocean City trade channels and should sUmuiate local

business.

Christmas Club popularity has steadily increased and the total savings this year show a gain over the preceding year. Several of the banks will maU checks to the Christinas save# early next week. The Idea is tb distribute the money early so that the recipients may have ample time In which to do their Christmas shopping. The $45,000 to be paid out in Ocean City is part of the »398.268.000 which will be distributed to 7,800.000 members of Christmas Clubs In the United States during the next few weeks. It was explained in some of the banks that a number of Christmas Club depositors had become deliquent but that the deficit is usually made up before the time designated for the return of the savings. These accounts were included in the estimates furnished

above.

According to the announcement made by Rawll. 7600 banks in the country co-operated in the Christmas Club plan this year, and the average distribution to each depositor will be $51.32. Last year it was $44.88. Rawll estimates that almost i $180,000,000 of the naUon's Christ-: mast Club savings will be spent' immediately in the rush of Christ-' mas buying; that about $110,000.-1 000 will go for insurance preml- [ urns and mortgage interest: more than $42,000,000 will go for taxes. 1 and more than $18,000,000 for miscellaneous fixed charges maturing' ‘n the holiday season. Massachusetts leads the country iu Christmas Club savings, with 1 New York and Pennsylvania not far behind.
