A telephone cable was melted and this curtailed service until late Sunday. The electric current had to be shut off during the repairing of the electric wires and this crippled :he pump at the sewer plant. Superintendent DeBow placed a gasoline pump in service. which relieved the condition somewhat. Crews from the telephone and electric companies resort Monday cheating their lines and icpairing.

New 0. C. Boardwalk To Be Most Modern
(Continued From Page 1) in the plans for the new promen-
Concrete Const ruction
la view of the recent conflagration it was deemed wise to erect new •walk of concrete. The only Inflammable material use ‘ wooden decking which is far superior to any other material for' a promenade. The new 'walk will be 60 feet wide. It will be supported with reinforced piling. IS inches In diameter, on which will rest reinforced concrete girders or caps moulucd into the piling. The piling will be 16 feet apart, with a distance of 20 feet between bents. The present piling is S feet apart and II feet between bents. new boardwalk, with fewer piling, will present a cleaner appearance under the walk and less
obstruction.
The boardwalk will have an overhang of C feet on the ocean and land side of the 'walk from
the piling.
In place of wooden joists, reinforced concrete beams 20 inches by 10 inches wide will be . These concrete beams contains a creosotfd nr '.line strip moulded into it. to which the decking will 1m- attache^.
('InJr Runs
The decking will be laid in herring bone fashion similar to the Atlantic City Boardwalk. Provisions have been made for two runways. 6 feel wide, tor rolling chairs. The decking will >e 4 inches by 3 inches deep. On the outside ot the "walk will lie constructed genuine wrought iron K.iliunizwl railing. Tb" posts and top rail will be 2 inches in diameter and the middle rill 1H inches. The present rail is 1% inches wide with 14 inch posts. The posts are fastened Into concrete. insuring solidity and perma-
nency.
Subsequent contracts will be, awarded for the installation of the, boardwalk lighting system and ap-i proaches or tamps. The Are alarm and electric light' wiring will be carried under the! 'walk in conduits. The electric light* will be automatically con-! trolled so after midnight or any j hour set every other light or every' third light will be automatically extinguished. The automatic operation of the lights should affect a considerably saving in operating expense, the officials believe. The details of the lighting syslem have not been announced, buti the expert procured by the city! from the National Association of i
Illumination, who made an inspection of the present boardwalk and plans for the new 'walk, recommended the lights .to be placed SO feel apart and at least 15 feet j above the decking on ornamental iron standards. Provisions will be made to install fire hydrants along the outside of the 'walk with 4 hose connection* to be used for fire
purposes.
A salt water unit will probably lie established, providing n 2u0 pound pressure for these hydrants.: At the present time the not mal' water pressure of the local water 1 works is 62 pounds. The salt | water until would eliminate any! danger of depleting the city water ! supply in case of emergnecy. A subsequent contract for the; construction of approaches or [ ramps will specify the approaches , to be as wide as the sidewalk and to have the same loading ca-! pacity as the boardwalk, which j will permit fire apparatus or any other vehicle likely to be used by | the city to mount the Volk.
