An Observation On Winter Moult

Tendency of Early Hatched Pullet* a Drawback

The tendency of early hatched pullets to go through a moult In the fall has always been more or lew of a drawback to their use. and various method* bate

are very easily destroyed

foil.'- In neglected vineyards lb beetle* often become very abundant and may be quite de-

structive In such localities.

In a email vineyard or on a few vine* the beetle? may be collected In the early morning when they are sluggish, or may be Jarred to canvas-covered frame* kept saturated with kerosene placed beneath the vines.

(We know of at least one vineyard in Cape May County which waa seriously damaged by this insect last year.)

to overcome this weakness An Interesting observatlou on this point was made at the College Farm this fall on four pen* of March hatched pullets (hat were being fed ration* with 10. 12. 14 and II per cent, protein, respectively. The bird* In the pea receivng the high protein ration had come into production much earlier than the others and bad produced many more eggs, particularly when compared mth the bird* receiving the low protein ration, yet ail four pens broke into a fall or pullet moult at the same time. The degree ot intensity of the moult was in direct proportion to the amount of protein in the ration, but this may have been due to the fact that the bird* receiving the high protein ration had laid so many more eggs. Regardless of the cause of the difference In the intensity of the moult, it is of value to observe that the holding back of egg production, as In the low protein pen. did not

prevent moult.

But good crop* and fair price* during 1*27 have In no •ctuc disposed of the farm problem So long a* we take ooe-thtrd of farm receipt*, leas other eapense*. for taxes, and so long as out of every dollar the consumer pay* for farm product* the farmer roust pay »l«y-«U cent* to get them to him. there will be a farm problem." Senator William E Borah, of Idaho, point* out. "And so long a* proposed remedies deal with neither on* of these problem*, there will be little relief." add* Senator Borah. "No industry m the world can stand up under such economic creeping paralysto. Good crops and fair prices may aasist In paying back Uvea and reducing tbi mortgage, but they will not under such circumstance* give perma-

nent relief."

t’ongress will grapple with th* farm problem again this year, and the fanners once more are being assured that "Congrea* I* going to do something for the I farmer." Legislative leaders are agreed that something must be done to bring about agricultural relief, but they differ on the

method of solution
