Without Vision the People Perish

Lay thla to yqur soul. The chi rch is the vital thing In ymr life and mine. For a time you can Ignore It; in some fashion you can exist without It: you can even say (God help you) that the church means little to you— "Churches are all rirght. but they do not bother roc in one way or the other." But you can nit live, and you do not live without the cboreh. Why. the church was the cradle of clyilliation. and Is today Its guide—the cloud by <*ay and the pillar of fire by night 'Hie world Is resting on the everlasting arm. Take this to your heart. No life can be lived to the utmost that is lived for and within Itself. You get out of life just what you put Into it; you receive only the helpfulness th«i you have extended to others, only tbs hkssingv you hare pamwd along. For a momert turn away from self, from your own interests and diversions, from your own home and family, and view In wonder and amaxement the humility, the work the church ha* been doing for twenty centuries for harassed and

overburdened humanity—doing for you. Where Use the need? Do NOT believe that the church does not need you for It needs you sorely. And do not think that you •!■ the church ur.til you know what the church has for you In Its treasure bouse. When you arc without tribulation, or pain, orgrtef. or disappointment, or heartache or desire, then you may say. "I have no need for the church." And when you cannot by precept or example, by klndneas or compassion help any living creature. you may say. "The church haa no need for tne." But until that time has come, seek out the church and cling to IL The wrong time to wish and desire for an Interest In church affairs U when sickness, has pi-.iled you near to death's door and you ace Ice lust opportunities of a misdirected life. You can save yourself many momenta of wgret NOW by affiliating yourself with the church of your choice In your town and attending it regularly.
