That he was l brains of the association seems to indisputable; and the enemies of Haywood declare that Charies H. Moyer. president of the Western Federa n of Miners, was but a figurehead the conduct of affairs. Haywood has long‘been known a* an energetic official and a man of radical views. In jt years he has been a Socialist In politics, and In 1901 openly avowed that the Western Federation of Miners flood for Socialism and was working for the triumph of that doctrine. Last utumn. though a prisoner In Idaho, he was the nominee of the Socialist party for governor of Colorado. Frank Bteunenberg was a remarkable man. menially and physically—a man of great force of character and courage. He etood seven feet In his •lockings and was bulll In proportion. Born In Iowa In 1861. he spent hi* boyho<Kl In that state, and In 1887 be went to Idaho, then a territory, where with his brother he started a newspaper.
