Local Option The New Jersey Anti-Saloon league has sent out through Its state headquarters, a notice that a bill will be presented to the coming legislating providing for the protection of all dry territory already existing, and for tbs submission to any municipality, the question of the continuance and Issu once ol license therein, at a special election, separate and apart from any other election whatsoever The general term of local option has come to mean a vote for or against licensing saloons. Local optlou^waa defeated last winter because It wss not pure local government, but provided that when a municipality voted for no license there could ,not be another election In that place upo^ the question. On the other hand. If It voted wet, then there could be an election within a certain time thereafter.True local option should give saloon men Inst as much right os the person who wonts no license. If <he lew should be enacted so that on a certain recurring time there should be a vote for and 'against license with equal chances to both parties, that would he true local option, and there certainly could be no objection to the passage of such a law.
