Tub New York JItrald la one of tbe tborougbly reliable great newspaper* of the country and 1* itralgbl-foTtarJ In IU utterance*, evidently, governed by lia conviction* a* to tbe right upon a question, 'and never playing tbe p*rt of

A PBIIFECT day, one upon which all nature appear* to rejoice and which caused people to feel as though life itarirwere beautiful and wordi !Mu| was yeatenlay at Cape May. At U beach .be clear a.moipberr, the beau, ful blue shire, the crisp and inviting water, and the white-w‘ngcd vetadslrihig tbe hoi iron, a'l gave to the acme an apIirarenrr of contentment and |«-soe, which was ounimuiilcalcd to the mind oi all w hose good fortune permitted them to gaxe in rapt con'empUtioa upon this delightful spectacle and to enjoy their surrounding*. Such a day is treasured In memory and recalled with jdeaMirr when condition* are noi Sebright. The voter* of Cape May should ms lice that because of the President's residence here, nearly all the Democratic papers of tbecountiy are exerting themselves to Injure tin- reputation of our fair city ba charging against it all the mean things which tiny ran invent. It has become a partisan mailer, this to kill Cape May because it lisv honored by the pevaroce of the P.csldeut, and loyalty to the resoi i should cause our cltlxcus to vote sol'-dly ■ their tiaducers next fall, and gl Republimi ticket a royal msjo.ll teary to cuatom. This rilv has becu virtually read out of Democratic 'at We stiall ceilaiply claim sup|s>ri tbe Rrpublieau ticket here, on 11 grounds, as well as others, next fall. Tueuk is a maikrd increase in the numher of visilors to Cape May season from Itolh Baltimore ami York. From the funner city th crease lias Im-u very noticeable, and from the -tatter it would be greater if the CarHltiea for reaching here were heller and If the place were advertised. New Yorkers do not object ride of a few hours* duration, if, in the cud, they can reach their destination without too much trouble changing cars. We believe the time soon when every objectionable feature which may seem to be op]ioaiag Itself to the enemragemeut of New York latmilage to Cape May will be thoroughly overcome, and that city will be included as one of our neighbors and a liWral patron of gnuul old Cape May. Tbe Camden Courser quotes < ment that “there is no city where a better feeling prevails toward other among tbe Inhabitants than here. As a rale there Is a hearty good will noticeable, wbleta Is commendable and pleasant," and it seems to be disposed to be amused at it lo the light of recent events. Wc beg to insist, however, that it is atrictly true, and would suggest that fair play wooid hsve caused the whole article to bate been quoted by tbe Courier instead of s part only. There Is bat one soiree of dissension sod discord here as we hive slated in the article from which the extracts are taken, and recent event* have very conclusively proven this, as should have been understood by so careful a reader of tbe Dailv Stab as editor o( the Courier.
The talk about tbe Prrsidmt'a Cottage at Cape May I* ancient fcbUiry. The President has Wight and paid for the cottage, and the people have no more coureni whh it than with his watch or prayr.-book. Whatever annoyance public comment may have given the President must be attributed to personal and party friends whose weal outrun decorum. The President'< own attitude is understood. Whatevei he might have thought when the key*
were presented to his CimHy, i
ble man he heard the voice of public
opinion, aa it were, above the
that make and break under the cottage windows. “Wbere are you going, hoy?" said tbe angry farmer. s» he seired th* hrel* of the urchin creeping into the melon patch. “Back again.* was the prompt and patriotic answer.—

Captain W. D. The Captain was tracing the matter carefully and systematically. and was getting to very close quarters, when tbe negro who was guilty took this method of freeing him •If from pursuit and capture.
