DILLON’S,
I can swim seventeen different ways, some of which come tinder the head of fancy swimming. As a gymnast can go through hit regular jierfonuance so cau I change nqiidly from one style of swimming to another. For a hundred yard race I recommend the American overhand side stroke. 1 admit that some say the turtle stroke is tlur faster of the two, but I really think the stile stroke is the fasbwi in the world. With the overhand ride stroke 1 swam MW yards iu one minntc and fifteen seconds, while the turtle stroke occupied just one and one-fifth second* longer. I liave found the turtle stroke very hard to keep up, because the movement* are quicker than the side stroke movement*. In a race always try IU keep on the left side of your uiqumni, with your eye on him, so he cannot make a spurt and get away from yon.—GusSundstrom in New York Mail and Kxprvs*. A llur-r with a Ills Mo.nl,. At Rotor. Ua.. while a horse wo* loose in tbs stable one of his hind feet got caught iu hi* mouth. It is supposed that the animal waa mhliiug the flics from hi* noie with his hind foot, when by accident the foot pawed into tiie mouth. The hoof was shod with a hoary iron shoe, and the sharp corners of the shoe and hoof rnt very painfr.l wounds in the month. Tin- animal fell to the ground and continued to struggle without relief. When he was discovered he was covered with foam and shown! every sign of a fearful struggle. Hi* master came and succeeded iu extracting the foot—Exchange. The average yield of peannts apirars to be about fifty bushels to the acre, although it sometimes goes as high a* seventy-five and falls as low as twentyfire. The value to the producer of the crop of 18R9-90 is estimated at not less than $$,000,000. A simple calculation will show that the daily consumption of peannt* in the United States is about 300,000 pounds, or ten carloads, representing an exjumditure hr the consumer at from $$0,000 to $30,000 daily. —St Louis Post-Dispatch. The odor of ambergris L not unlike musk, but mere penetrating and.also more enduring. Every one knows how difficult it is to remove the musk odor from anything which has ever been touched with the tail of the rat. It is much mure difficult to get rid of the odor of genuine ambergris. This accounts fur. its groat value to the manufacturer* of perfumery.
