('*p« Mat'* brick .p»Te«neut*, ni»njr of them. mu»t be rrry ancient, judglnj; from the nay In which they arc con ally breaking np, completely thru ugh. Tboar rrlaid should be of lietter material, and If Bwaln'* cement .pavement could be wed upon every property^ both property owner* and the general public would be getting beuelitted. Really, there U too much neglect of the pavement* by property owner*.
“I.U Bkioaxim,*' promised earlier in the season, 1* now ready and will W played on the Iron pier thl* evening. It Is strong in all It* parts, and ha* l«-en thoroughly rrbeanad by the company. The music 1* particularly fine. The popular comedian Walker ha* a .great part and 1* so much Interested In it that he will play enthusiastically and surely ■interest the most critical audience. The troupe ha* been strengthened by the addition of si* pretty girls to the churn*. EvauruNfc who witnessed the perfor- • mance of the “La Mascotte" on Saturday evening, on the pier were delighted with it and pronounced it excellent throughout. Messrs. Fred Freer and Mount joy Walker, the fkvorite comedians, made some extremely good local hits. In addition to performing their respective parts "Lorrn*o" and "Kocco" perfectly. Walter Ford was also .excellent as •■Pippo." Mias Aldrich was frequently encored as “Bettlna," and played the part In excellent taste.
Is thk problem of beach pavilions, which has for so many season* seemed to be puzzling both the public and the local press, not working Its own solution? As noted, an initial step ws* taken at Congress Baths, .by the erection of -a Urge tent ou the strand above high water mark that should serve as a shaded resting place for the patrons, and their friends. The general public, whether patrons of the baths or were, not long iu utilizing s good thing when they saw It, ami the spot 1* much sought by many who usually spend the mid-day hours upon the beach. Another, though smaller, is proportionately useful. None followed the example, except that private tenU are becoming more numerous and dot the strand here and there quite picturraquely. Much benefit U derived from these tents, and not a particle of harm done, nor can the most chronic croaker assume that "the beach l* rained," “the view U cat off," or any of the absurd things some have prophesied would be the case if anything wc allowed upon the beach. The scene all the prettier, more attractive and more comfortable, sc rather than think of removing them, let others go an likewise. Canvas over the entire beach, if you will, and only praises will be heard. Recently It was suggested by borne one that the proper thing to give a shaded place to spectator*, would lie to place pavilions over an archway aerms the beach, drive, but such ides* are entirely foreign to the demands of the beach visiting public.

What might very properly be desig. dated ••Children's Hour," on Cape May's beautiful strand, really occurs twice a day. Bright and early the nurse girl* and their little charges are up and about preparing tor the morning outing, sud from eight to nine o'clock, though many go earlier, the mass of the babies are being trundled down to the pier, beneath whose shadow the little army find protection from the son and enjoy the cool, invigorating and healing brevxr* that play so delightfully across the shaded ground, while In ecsUeire the babes crow their delight or peacefully sleep in the reatfqlneas of innocent childhood. Others who have passed from babyhood into what may be termed toddlehood, are the juvenile army engineers, and they plan and labor and dig until great earthworks and trenches appear, probably to be trampled down, and If not, to be leveled by the first
