Ibe erUp, cl mo water, of the jereat Atlantic ocean rolling oeaaeleaal; upon the meet level and flnneat of. beachee; the pure. Invigorating atmoapbere which prevea marveloualy healing to the Hi. the worn and the aullering wbo vlalt oor shores—all combine to make tbe oldest seaside resort In America the moat charming and the moat satisfactory. Nowhere In America hi there a beach comparable to that of Cape May, which has by common consent, been railed •The finest beach In tbe world.’’ Wide, bard and smooth, free from anything save the finest sand tightly packed. It slopes so gradually into the sea that the idea of danger la never present with the bather and tbe great rolling surges are enjoyed with the keenest rest unalloyed with a single fear. Tbe bracing atmosphere atlmnlatcs with every inhalation, and glvre new life and vigor to the thousands who visit oar shores. Men, women and children feel themselves 'Vrow" and find new beauty and ploaeureV the mere act of living life,as it Is In Cape May's favored dime. Do oar readers in the Interior of the country desire to visit a resort for change, rest or pleasure? Then seek no farther. Coate to tbe Queen of them slL Visit the seashore at tbe spot known to five generations as tbe most favored resort In the country. Do yon want to commune with nature and enjoy the blessings she Is prepared to shower upon yon In foil? D ere la the place. Our waters are alive with fish, oysters, clama and crabs, our'ahorea fnrnlah sport for gunners and the great sea in front contains the gamiest fish which can be caught, in numbers to an it. White winged, dainty yachts, smoothly glide over tbe waters and a sail upon them, if yon have never before enjoyed theexperlenoe. will canae yon to think that years of life in ordinary, are scarcely 1 worth a day of this. Larger vessels clean and swift are ready for breasting the great billows to take yon to the banks where fish of every variety disport by thousandsa*d even though accompanied by a totfon of dread mat At mtr, such trip llngkTs-lnthe mind of tbe visitor May Is tbe one perfect seaside resort. Nature made It ad, and in Issuing this, our annual Invitation, to our friends In the interior, to spend tbe summer or a portion of It at Cape May, we feel that all who accept will be amply compensated. Senator John Edgar Rayburn, as we call him, but really Congressman Reyburn, will soon bring his family down and occupy his handsome Colombia avenue collage. The Senator is one of our foremost cottagers. Us is president of the Cape May City Athletic Club, and has been very active lb'assuring its remarkable base ball team for tbe coming season. Tbe Congressman was born In Clark county, Ohio, in 1845; was educated by private tutor and at 8aunder* Institute, West Philadelphia; studied law and was admitted to tbs bar In 1670; was a member of the House of Representatives of Pennsylvania, aeaakms 1871, '74, *75, ‘70; was elected a member of the Senate of Psnnsyli ania for a term of four years from December 1. 1870, and re-elected November. 1880; was elected President pro tempore for the session of 1883; was reelected Senator November. 1884. and again elected November, 1888, for a term of four yean; was elected as a Republican to fill tbe nnexplred term of Hon. William I). Kelley to tbe Fifty.firet Congress, February 18. 1880, and reelected to tbe Fifty-aooood Congress. Cape May's liverymen have not been alow to discover the need for Improved service and to adopt means for iu provision. To this end several showy teams, driven to new and attractive carriages, havs been placed at tbe dlspoeal of the public. This la commendable, and should, and will, no f—*■* meet with a hearty appreciation bands of those wbo do not ma turnouts of their own, but wbo desire to ride behind plMsant roadsters and alt In comfortable and respectable coaches. When Beach avenue is mads continuous along tbe beach from this city to the Point, bjr connecting with tbe ML Vernon section, lovers of the drive wlU have their admiration and enjoyment of these pleasures greatly enhanced.
Cape May boaata of tbe possession of some of the Cnost hotels on the coast, and of smaller hotels and villas, so comfortable, homelike and quietly elegant that they are rarely equalled— never surpassed. There are ample accommodations here for the most fashionable and wealthy, as well aa for those wbo require comfortable accommodations at more moderate oosL All who visit a seaside resort can' be served In the most satisfactory manner and for the must satisfactory prices. Those wbo can afford to sojourn at any seaside resort can afford to do so at Cape May. None are debarred from enjoying tbe grand climate of tbe oldest and finest resort. _ Indications, combined with existing facta, point to a good cottage year at Cape May, and a good cottage favor means general favor and liberal patronage. Our first-class cottages are many of them already leased for the season, and taken at fair prices, a little better, generally speaking, than in former seasons. Quite a number, ranging from *— * —>W**0 hundred doi-
