“ It luoka like the bright of the waaon at Congrea* Hall,” aaitl Prof. I^Kimla hurt rvening. We hare jnat bail one of the moat aoclal and jilraaant bopa e»er aeen there, and we hare one every evening.'' After a little reflection he added, ••Yon can aafely announce Congreas Hall hop every evening." What a fine thing It would be If a line ot ateameni were plying between New York and Cape May, or atopping at Cape May! Everybody thlnka so, and when the iron pier waa built thla waa the paramount idea, largely the baalx upon which anbacriptioiu obtained. It la not too much to i that if thia Inducement had not held out, money could not have obtained by aubacriptiou to build the coatly atructure. It ia not yet too late to utilize It for the pnrpoaea or'gi-ially Intended, and by ao doing to make it an exceedingly valuable property. Men experienced in auch mattera aay that the thing ia perfectly feaaible, and that the pier can be made a landing-place for atcamera for a comparatively moderate expenditure. When it ia zold there will be an opportunity for enterprialng capi-^i-_t*liaU to make good and profitable of their money, and at the aame time do May a great aervire. Pru. together. Be loyal. Do not heeitate to defend Cape May from the aaperaiona which thoae who have been prejudiced and who are not correctly informed may caat upon It. Do not healtate to tell what immenae advantage* our reaor* haa over all othera. Thoae who cannot aid, financially, lmportant project* can aid by their influence. All who are intereated in Cape May can aid In IU development, ahould be made very unpopular to abuu Cape May, or to go over thoae old, old phraaes condemnatory of the reaort and Ita people, which, when find beard, bound ao weighty, but which, when analyzed and examined into, are found to be without foundation and without truthful meaning. The aame phrzM* are applied to almoet every town, and they are the reault of habit, heedlem. habit, and Indifference to facta. Explanation can always be had for the most acrioua accusations we have ever heard against Cape May, and there are many nice, creditable and true things to be said where there U one discreditable thing to be discovered. Rxdrajzo old times last evening with several gentlemen In our office, the question came up, “Are the amusements at the hotels ao managed and conducted nowadays that they are as attractive aa formerly, and do they go to make up a aeason’a brilliancy awl a season's enjoyment to as great ah extent as in the days o'f the old hotels ?" Speaking from the light of our own ex peri ence aa Cape May journalists, we must Bay that one feature that aided the gayety ol the seasons was the custom of the hotel proprietors to advertise their evening entertainments. Attractive “ ads *’ would be placed in the local papers, ifloely displayed, as “ Invitation Hop,” or “Full-Dress Hop,” as the case might be, that everybody “ on the Island" (at some old fogies still call our resort), might be informed as to when and where such amusements were to occur, that guests from other houses and cottages as well, might come and help to swell the throng of admirers of the “light fantastic,” the sweat strains of the orchestra, and the associations that go to give seat to sojourn. There is this to be considered In this connection, and u very seriously and much talked about, that the more of three pleasures offered tbs people (not meaning thereby exclusively hotel gue^), the more popular la the resort, generally speaking, and therefore the greater the patronage. It used to be that all visitors to the Cape, hotel guests fir cottagers, heartily welcomed to the hotel hops; they ware the greatest and most enjoy, able feature of indulgence of the people, I these large and almoet nightly
