tion of Proldent Harrlaon. Cars Mar, July 98. 1891.

Chan. W. Richardson, brother t Postmaster Richardson, arrired frot J scksonrille, Fla., on Saturday for abort summer stay. Ex-Senator Warner Miller, of New York, and Secretary of the Nary, Tracy, arrired last night and went Immediately orer to the President’s cottage. Senator Miller returns home today and sails for Europe to-morrow. A THAIS on the Reading’s Atlantic City railroad made 48 miles in 43 minut« the other day. The new fi»c o’clock train orer the Wert Jersey to Cape May has done about as well on several occasions making up lost time.

Tukrk is e bridge leading orer Cape Island Creek at the west end of Congress street, just beyond the llrery stables, that needs attention. The planks are decayed and broken, and dangerous to horses. It is>ald one hoiae has already lieen Injured by putting Its foot Into a broken place. , Now, don’t anybody go to catching and eating frogs around Cape May because John Stow, of SlteRon, Conn., has gone to eating lire frogs and finds no distress after his strange meal. Lire bull-frogs, not orerty Urge, are shored down bU throat, bead foremost, and swallowed. What a gullet! and what a stomach 1 The food, be mays Is excel lent, and just as good as lire elams, lire oysters, or eren lire scallops. TuERE it a bad practice In rogue on the beach daring bathing boors of boys throwing missiles about among the people upon the strand. Yesterday a lady waa struck in the fees by a club and painfully hurt. If boys don’t know try better, which It seems they should. It la time an officer were placed down there to take them In band, genres fan and should be broken up

forthwith.

Ellwood 0. Wagenhurat, of Pennsylvania, U probably the beat-known player now connected with an amateur club. While not an amateur^according to the strict letter of the Taw, be U an amateur in spirit and associations. His connection with the Princeton College and New York (N. L.) teams has made him renowned as an able exponent of the great game the country orer. His r.-saful career aa captain of the strong University of Pennsylvania and Cape May nines for the last two years has given him the enrUbU reputation of tx-ing one of the headiest and ablest captains in the amateur baae ball ranks. Wagenharat’a first game of ball of any prominence was when, aa a sophomore, he pUyed first baae for Princeton against tbe University of Pennsylvania In ’88. He had fire put-cuts and two errors, and PennsylranU won the game by tb4 score of 10 to 9, their first victory over the Orange and Black. Tbe next year and alto In *{18 Wagenhurat covered third base for Princeton. He made such an enviable reputation that he signed as short-stop by Jim Mnrtrie for the New Yorks the next Spring when he waa a Uw student in the University of Pennsylvania. At that time John Ward was holding off. He soon signed

and Wagenhurat waa released.

Since then he baa played second baae for the University of Pennaylvanla nine and captained them, hU skilful work and energy making that team what It has been during the last two yea

leader In the college ranks.

Aa a fielder Wagenhurat covers lota of ground, but, on the whole, canm said to be above the average in respect. He la a batter that the best pitchers fear, and a baae runner that few batteries can atop. He la stlU studying Uw and Intends to toon stop playing ball.—Philadelphia iYeas.
