The following anonymous rommunlration came to us yesterday, and wi will extend to It thr unusual courtesy of publicatou: Cars Mat, August 14, 1800. Ebitou n n say It is a bare-faced lie; no spoke to her at the time, and iu> person hit her. She got her breast bruised when ahe was getting into the boat This I* the credit they get for saving a person. Err. Witxkss. It refers to an article in Wednesday' Issue of thr 8tah and the writer is, evidently, interested iu denying the accusation that the lady was struck by her

her bruises by the "she got her breast bruised when she was getting Into the boat," but shier, according to the story told by her rescuer*, she was not able to get Into the boat herself, bnt was i .fully lifted Into it, while ahe say* she was unconscious and with her hack toward the boat, it dor* not appear bow her breast could have been bruised while ahe was “getting into the brat." The anonymous writer does not explain why he is ao much interested in the matter, since be certainly had no hand in saving the lady, hat he may have been her companion. HU treatment of the subject gives rUr to a suspicion of thUktnd.

T*X»X Is a general complaint here at the additional expense caused by carrying out the provision* of the Ballot Reform bill. The expense over the old plan U considerable, hut few would object to H if the new law were certain to produo. the desired result of preventing fraud at the eUrtlou*. hut there U very grave doubts upon thU subject, and It U even asserted by prominent and 1 experienced politician* that the tendency will be to Increase rather than diminish the opportunities for the manipulators to control uncertain votes by unlawful means. One feature about It U objectionable to all citizens who are opposedto centralising tendencies, and that U that the election officers formerly elected directly by the people are now appointed in Oil* manner: The County Board of are appointed by the Governor. Two are Republicans and two Democrats, who are nomlaated respectively by the Chairmen of the Rtate Committee* of the two political parties. The County Board appoints the local Board* of Registration, which each consist of lour members, two Republicans and two Democrats, and the nominees of the County Chairmen of each party respectively, are appointed. The appointments, therefore, are strictly party matter* and the whole election machinery la controlled by the leaden of the two partlca. The fall elections will tewt the new Uw thoroughly, however, and if found wanting, another Legislature will hare the opportunity to amend It or relegsts It lo the realm of hack number*.
