be behind iU predecessors in Its successful outcome.
The citizens and visitor* were startled on Saturday evenIBg about 8 o'clock by an alarm of fire. The alarm proved false, much to the satisfaction o! all. The new bones were given a trial with the engine, and, aome extra excitement were the only outcome*. A lamp was upset in a cottage but extinguished
wltbont serious damage.
The Cape May season ha* never, to our recollection, been aupj-osod to reach it* height, or even a reasonable height, nnlll the last Saturday in July—and we may refer with pride, under the circumstance*, to the height our season really did reach on Saturday and yesterday. Train* came heavily laden with passengers bent upon seeking the open sir of the seashore in relief from the torrid heat and coming to mingle with friends In the enjoyment of vacation's mo*t satisfying, restful pleaaure*. Tobe pilled, indeed, are the thousand* who, because of their business tie*, or because of a scantiness of means, find It Impossible to s hare w ith their fellows the things which go to renew one's hold on life, and which go to make It worth the living. To delve along—on and on in a single tiresome rut, is hard indeed, and the fact that opportunities sre In this given toilers of all classes to enjoy lometking within their means. Is worth noting. Not only the rich, but C poor as well, may in some email wa somewhere, escape Irom their toilaor life, though all may not, cannot re the delights of a season at Cape May.
