We ere ol tbe opinion that there is too much HgK to health taken by those who kshltge in a cold shower bath after coming from lbs surf. Man; ladies take it to frae-lhe hair from the salt water, but Ish't it a dangerous remedy ? We know some have taken cold the re by, and we would advise bathers logo careful about It.

Tbe usual extortion is being attempted this year In the shape of tbe collection of gas meter rents. Not content with a fabulous charge for the use of gaa, this little dollar per meter i* extorted, probably without orders, by tbe local snperIntcndent- It is the sort of thing to expect from such a superintendent, but there abould be a general revolt against I tbe payment of it. Tbe matter is a local peculiarity and is hot charged elsewhere, asd it Is charged here solely because people submit. Submission long ago ceased to be a virtue. Cape May la Injured inoaleulsbly by these I«Uy little scheme* for tbe extracting of dollars from tbe people. Anguat la everywhere among reaorta nowadays acknowledged to be tbe ■iueenof summer months, and many wbo used to seek hotel accommodations earlier In the season now hold back until this monlb In order to be at tbe shore when everybody else la there, end It aeema aa If by common consent there la to be but a single month of real good business, generally speaking. But August bolds on well In this respect and tbe hotels, aa a rule, oome out >n knows no change, exoept it be for tbe better, many regular families coming earlier and staying later than formerly. And no resort anywhere can boast of so fine a cottage colony aa can Cape May—thoroughly excellent families all tbe way through. Cape Mayls police report a very orderly state ol attain, remarkably so for even tbe quiet and orderly city for which Cape May baa long been noted. Many oome to this resort because of this reputation, and It is better so than that our resort should be known as one given to drunkenneea and -dlaordei, a resort given over to wild and rcoklms men and worse women. wbo would come simply to Indulge their propensities for enjoying In tbeir way, a wild and uoisy racket in drunken dteordcr. We deem this state of affalneomeUiing to be prond of and refer to It that tbe world may know that all may come sod enjoy undisturbed the richest thing* lor which the true seeker after recreation, health and pleasure seek. For cottage famllle* no resort on tbe ooast''oir«r* such Inducements to spend tbe summer In a manner befitting tbeir desire* aa
