It msy not alwsy* be safe to "tie to" what women say about their own sex, but, on general principles, we have found that woman's judgment is good and her criticisms fair. Bo, now, when two bright, fair snd comely young ladies remarked to the Stab rej-orter that Cape Msy summer girls n looked handsomer, never dressed in ter taste, we feel constrained to agrec
with them. And there is
extrarsnoe Indulged in in the matter of Am** than formerly. All conditions change eontinuslly, and while fashion* change, and grow, as it were, it must be admitted that means for supporting the daughters in this growth of fashions increase likewise. Since the settlement of this country American girls bare never been known to teach such development of person nor gown themselves
with snch attractive taste.
The musical festival Sunday evening next at Congress Hall will be another grand event which will be remembered long. In addition to the Go(igre*s Hall orchestra, there will be present the orchestra of the Grand Opera House, Philadelphia, and the military band, the Third Regiment. From 8.30 to 9.30p. m. the military band will play the lawn, this being a prelude to I grand concert to occur in the great dining ball. Several of the prominent gentlemen at Congress Hall, in. tcrested In music, will act as a commlttee of arrangements, Including Mr. Ernest Knabe, of Baltimore, president; Mr. Florence J. Ueppe, of Philadelphia, secretary; Dr. George Gladding, of Homestead, Pa., treasurer, and as director*. Dr. John'C. Hemcler and Mr. Ernest Knabe, of Baltimore; Mr. Thomas Hills, of Washington: Horn Albert H. Slape, of Salem; Messrs. Chris. J. Ueppe, William Baugh and
B. F. Hart, of Philadelphia
We often bear (eople remark that they are not doing buaiur** for fun or for glory, but we think we have discovered one person who does conduct a business for the mere love of the thing and for pastime; at least the way the matter has been stated to us, and the reliable source from which it comes, lead* us to honestly believe such it the case. We refer now to the management of the Hotel Avalon, on Seven Mile Beach. The cultured lady who is the lessee of this pretty hotel and personally conducta it, give* such dinners as utterly astonish.-* her patrons, to any four or five dollars per day bouse, though her day rate la tyl *2.50. »b Is said to be very wealthy^tn her owi right, and that bet husband Is a pro* perou* Philadelphia merchant. Mrs Bchwenk Is exceediqgl/'fond of the life and excitement which hotel manageit gives, and prides herself npon the

sommrrf Tbie subject has been goneover time and again, and sometimes the only true answer would seem to be— because It U bot in the cities and coaler and pleasanter at the allots. Sometimes It it because people are seeking health and it is usually to be'found by moving to the seaside. Sometime* it I* because pleasure la to be found there, different and greater that »t other seasons elsewhere. Sometimes it U to enjoy the surf bath of the salt tea wares. And so there are-pU eorta of excuses made for going andtros Tcaaou* given for a summer sojourn beside the aea; bat seldom. If ever do we hear of the children’ tereat In this matter. Many a little child has been saved by the change. Many a aoholar’a brain baa been rested, slrengtheued and recuperated for a re lorn to books by the healthful luvigoratloo a seaside outing has given. Many cottage borne* have been estab.labed beside the era because of the children. Look at the raat army of children that come down upon us each summer, with tbe'r chatter and noise, driving many to distraction, almost, but themselves taking on brews and brain, extracting more real good, perhaps, from their summer outing than any othera.
